Hi!
I'm so very happy to have had my RNY! I only wish I could have done it years ago and saved myself from so much guilt, embarrassment and self-loathing. HOWEVER, that being said, all of that pain just makes things all the better now! I finally feel comfortable in my body, and no longer seek ways to avoid going to events or meeting new people. I am looking forward to having "some work done" and getting my size 2X skin cut down to size.

My Story

Anguish and embarassment over my weight began at age 9 when my teacher announced to the class I weighed 104 pounds. Soon after, I started a cycle of fasting, binging, and fad diets. Throughout my life I bought diet books, joined expensive programs, starved and yo-yo dieted, losing and gaining the weight of at least 6 to 8 "normal" people in my life time, to a top weight of 270 pounds. My obesity dominated my life and the lives of my family. I would find excuses not to attend events with my husband and felt ashamed that I the fattest mom at my children's groups.
I received the blessing of my RNY surgery in June 2007 weighing 257 pounds. I have since lost 120 pounds, and had several plastic surgeries to remove excess skin. My husband has been my greatest supporter, and I am thrilled to see pride at my success in his eyes.
I am determined to use this tool to stay healthy and use my experiences to help others. To that end, I felt a calling to take the OH support group leader classes and subsequently started the "Thru Thick N' Thin" support group in Tacoma in March 2008. We now have 20-25 friends attending monthly. I also help with the WLS self-help group at Ft. Lewis as time permits.
I love my new body, and hope someday soon my brain will catch up with it!
