Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have battled my weight most of my life. Especially after my mid-20's. I have tried optifast and weight watchers (many times). Some attempts were successful in getting the weight off, but never keeping it off.

Hi! I'm Sue. I have been obese most of my adult life. With 50 looming on the horizon, it's time to make a change in my life. I want to be FIT and 50, not FAT and 50! I want to run with my dog! I want to go out in public and not feel ashamed of how I look. I want to feel sexy for my husband. I hear how so many wish they had done the surgery sooner; it encourages me. But I wasn't ready sooner; so I am doing now. Because NOW I am ready. :)

Next week is the week!
on October 22, 2012 11:10 am

October 30, 2012 is the day I am scheduled to start my new life with my new stomach. I am 90% excited and 10% scared lol  I guess that's normal.

Reading all the posts from post-ops about their experiences the first few days has me somewhat prepared. I know everyone is different, so I am going to hope for the best but be prepared for not-quite the worst.

I have been doing the pre-op diet for almost 4 weeks now.  My original surgery date was October 17. Rather than start eating again and have to go back to the pre-op diet, I just stuck with it.  For the most part, it's been okay. I haven't been overly tempted.  Last week I had a couple of rough days.  I wanted FOOD!  But that passed. Whew!

Went to my second BRS support meeting on Tuesday.  Got a lot of information out of this one. Last month there was a post-op who monopolized the meeting. She was very nice and it was great to see how happy she was.

I am trying to implement some of the changes required post-op now; like not drinking with my meals, eating protein first.

I need to be mindful of when I my stomach hungry and not when my head says I am. Listening to my head is what got me here.

I still feel so in the dark about the surgery.  I only recently began my process; but I feel like I don't know enough.

How long will I be out of work? What are the dos and don'ts? Do I find this out when I meet with the nutritionist?

The hospital I am having it at only has the support group once a month. I don't think that is often enough. Are there other groups on Long Island that welcome people from other hospitals?

I worry: will I be able to have the surgery in 2012? What if my employer changes health insurance companies?  I'm sure everyone has felt the same things when they were going through the process.

I can hardly wait!

My First day
on May 10, 2012 12:16 pm
Today is my first day on OH.  I have heard so many good things about it from a support group I attended with my mother.

About two weeks ago, I met with a surgeon to discuss the Sleeve.  I have made all my appointments except the pysch eval. I am waiting for the pysch to join the group so she will covered by my insurance.

I attended my first "for me" support group.  I was surprised how small the group was compared to the ones I attended with my mother.  But it was nice. I was able to get a lot  of information from the folks who had had the sleeve.  I walked out of there super excited about my future and motivated.

My husband had come with me; it was very helpful for him. One woman expressed how unsexy she felt and it finally made sense to him all the times I was saying it.
