Today marks a significant mildstone on my journey toward a healthier, free me!  It has been one month and 7 days since my surgery and I have lost a total of 50lbs !!!!  GOD has truly blessed me!!! I have to give him all the credit.  I look at myself in the mirror and am completely amazed.  I have experienced so many different emotions from joy to saddness, grief, lonliness, frustration, excitment and so many more.  I am grateful for my success thus far.  I have no regrets.  I am loving my band!  My next mini goal is to lose 15 lbs.  Stay in peace!

Unbelievable to me....

This morning I went to Roger Williams Hospital and completed all of my pre operative tests: EKG, blood work, chest x-ray, and meeting with the anesthesiologist.  I got there right at 9:30 this morning and I was finished at 11.  It went quicker than I thought.

I am still in awe of this whole thing.  It is almost like I am watching the process unfold for someone else and not myself. I am excited that I will be banded soon but it just seems unreal.  Is this normal?  Hmmm... well back to work...

My Story

Well, what can I say my weight has been an issue pretty much as long as I can remember. I struggled with my weight for the last 12 years. I am a BIG GURL... But the funny thing is that I liked the way I looked. At least I USED TO like the way I looked! My weight was always proportionate. That was until I was put on some medication that caused me to gain 50 lbs in a couple of months. Then 40 lbs turned into 90 lbs and things spiraled from there. I have always been heavy but I have reached a point to where I don’t like the way I look in certain clothes. I USED TO love clothes shopping and buying dress clothes. I would rarely wear jeans or dress down. I would always dress up. And never would I wear an un-tucked shirt. I mean that would have been the worst thing ever . Now, I have to worry if a shirt is long enough to cover my stomach and jeans are my everyday wear.
My decision to get the lap-band surgery emerged when I became completely depressed and miserable as the 30yr old, 326 lb BIG GURL! And when I realized that I must do something now my health before it becomes a serious issue. I want to be a participator in my life and not spectator.
After a year of intensive research of the lap-band and gastric-by-pass surgeries, weighing the pros and cons of each, I have decided the lap-band is best for me.
