Surgeon Testimonial

Kristin Earle
I went through Central Carolina Surgery and saw Dr. Kristin Earle. She was also the surgeon that spoke at the seminar. I was very impressed with her. At the seminar, she was very thorough in explaining things and seemed to genuinely care about what she was talking about. Meeting her face to face for the office visit just reaffirmed everything. She was very down to earth and acted like she had all the time in the world. I didn't feel rushed to get out of there. She answered all of my questions and gave me a very positive outlook on everything. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

Wooohooo!!! First MAJOR goal achieved!!!!!!
on March 15, 2010 5:42 am
I am sooooo excited!!!!!  I have achieved my first MAJOR goal of weighing under 300 pounds.  I got on the scale this morning and it was 299!!!!  It has been a very long time since I seen a 2 at the beginning of my weight.  We're talking somewhere around 9th grade.  We're talking 16 or 17 years!!!!!  I wasn't sure how I would initially react when I finally reached under 300.  I just had to stand there for a minute and take it all in.  It actually brought me to tears.  I took a picture of it so I could alway remember this moment.  This has been a long and difficult road, but it's moments like this that make every single minute of it worth while!!!!!

Getting Frustrated!!!!
on February 12, 2010 6:36 am
My weight has not budged in 9 days!!!  I have been stuck at 319.5 pounds.  I don't know what the problem is.  Nothing has really changed in my diet.  I know I need to step up my protein.  I had to go off of the protein shakes for about 2 weeks and I'm just starting them back.  I also need to step up my excercise.  I haven't been able to do it as much this past week.  I have gone from averaging about a pound a day to doing jack squat in over a week.  It's very frustrating!!!!!

Lowest Weight in 10+ Years
on February 3, 2010 5:38 am
I have reached my first goal.  I weighed in this morning at 319.5 pounds.  This is the lowest I have weighed in over 10 years.  When I was pregnant with Nora in 2006, I lost almost 50 pounds and got down to 320.  Needless to say, it didn't take long to gain it all back and then some.  This makes my total weight loss since December 1st at 60.5 pounds!  Yayyy!!!!

BOOBS ....
on January 29, 2010 7:02 am

Okay, I know I'm not the first person to post this but .... I DON'T LIKE LOSING MY BOOBS!!!!!  It's one of the very few things about my body that I have ever liked.  When I went into the hospital for my surgery, the lady in x-ray told me to start saving my pennies, nickles, and dimes.  I asked her why.  She said I was going to need them for a boob job later.  Her sister had gastric bypass two years ago.  She went from full DDDs down to deflated Cs.  She couldn't stand it.  She saved up her money and got them back the way she wanted them.  Only she went with DDs instead of the big three.  She said it really raised her self confidence level.  The lady was really nice and really funny.  But it did get me to thinking that I need to start saving up.  I don't think I would like having two deflated balloons attached to my chest.  I definitely want to wait until I've lost the majority of my weight.  It will take me that long to save up that much money anyway.  Just a thought.

I have worn at size 26/28 for 15+ years.  I went to the store yesterday to buy a belt and I figured I would try on a shirt since mine are getting so baggy.  I can now officially wear a 22/24!!!!!  Yay for me!!!

My Story

My name is Renee.  I am 31 years old and I have been overweight basically my whole life.  I have been over 300 pounds since my early teens.  I have thought about weight loss surgery for many years.  My husband Ed has also struggled with his weight most of his life.  We have a 3 year old daughter named Nora.  She is our pride and joy.  Since she has come into our lives, it has made us both more aware of how we need to make a permanent change in the way we eat and the way we live our lives.  We want to be able to go outside and run around with her.  We want to be around for her graduation.  We want to be grandparents some day ... way down the road.  I want to be someone that my daughter can be proud of.  I don't want her to be embarrassed when I have to come pick her up at school or something like that.  And even more than any of that, I want to be proud of myself.  I have tried diet after diet in the past.  It may not be so much in that they didn't work, as much as I just couldn't stick to them.  I knew that I needed something that would give me the jump start I need to get my life back on the right track.

My husband I started looking into gastric bypass surgery.  I had been looking at it for years, but not on a serious note.  I kept getting hung up with paperwork by my doctor because I had no comorbidities.  Ed was able to sail right along through his six month supervised diet and then to surgery.  Ed had gastric bypass in October 2008.  He went from 440 lbs to currently weighing 230 lbs with only 18% bodyfat.  He had absolutely no complications.  He has stuck to what he is supposed to eat and I am so very proud of him.  He said that he was glad he had to do the six month diet because he felt that it better prepared him for how he had to eat after surgery.

I finally got a letter of recommendation from my doctor and it's all downhill from there.  I went to Central Carolina Surgery in Greensbooro and met with Dr. Kristen Earle.  She was wonderful.  I started the process in May 2009.  My insurance did not require the six month supervised diet.  I knew that I wanted to have gastric byspass instead of the band or any other wls.  I needed something that was seriously going to kick me in the butt and MAKE me change the way I eat.  I didn't want something that would be easy to cheat with.  I had gastric bypass surgery on December 15, 2009.  I weighted 380 lbs at my highest.  When I weighed in at the nutritionist on Dec 1, 2009, I weighed 377.  The morning of my surgery (12/15/09), I weighed 353.  I am just over a month out of my surgery and I weigh 325.

Even though I'm only in the early stages of everything, I feel better than I have in years.  I feel like I have more energery, my clothes are getting baggy, I feel like I have more self confidence.  I wish so much I could have had the surgery sooner.  Then again, Ed has been a huge inspiration to me and he keeps me on track with what I am supposed to eat and what I'm NOT supposed to eat.  I don't know if I could have done it without him.
