Surgeon TestimonialKeith B. Boone M.D.My first impression of him was good. He was fairly soft spoken and thorough. He didn't make us feel rushed and asked periodically if we had any questions. He did refer us to his office staff for the stuff that come next. I suppose that's to be expected. Surgery went very well but I haven't seen him since. His partner Dr. Higa is the one who released me and I've been seing his P.A. for all my post op visits but I like her. I was in the process of getting all my necessary evals and blood work done before my first consult with him and his office staff \"lost\" a lot of my paper work because I \"wasn't a patient yet\" A little frustrating but fortunately I had copies to re send. Also they gave me the 1 year post op blood work paper instead of the pre-op so I had to redo some of the tests and that had to come out of pocket because the insurance wouldn't pay twice. He is a very thorough surgeon and if I had to have this surgery again I would choose him again.

I'm Normal!!! on October 23, 2008 11:05 am
I never thought this day would come. I am actually "normal" on the BMI charts for what I believe to be the first time in my life!!!
I have no words to express what I am actually feeling. I had to get on and off the scale 4 times this morning just to make sure I was reading it right.
Thanks for letting me share. Couldn't have done it without you all!

It's finally over on April 27, 2008 8:35 am
Well, they went in and took the stone out and placed a stent. That thing was aweful. After 5 days, it came out and that night I ended up back in the ER. Seems something was agrivated in there. At that point, we decided it would not be a good idea to travel, so the trip to Canada was cancelled. Well, it turns out, I am FINALLY on the mend. No more "episodes" and I haven't had to take any more pain meds. It also looks like the trip to Canada is just postponed, as i may have the opportunity to go toward the end of August. I am very excited that I almost feel back to normal. It has been a long hard struggle for sure.

Kidney Stone Update on April 9, 2008 5:54 pm
First, thank you all for the support you have given me through this painful experience.
Now - the update. I went and had pictures taken yesterday and followed up with the Urologist today. The stone hasn't moved and since it is causing constant pain, we decided to go get it. He will go in with a scope, break it up and remove it. He will put in a stint that will stay for several days. How long will depend on "how beat up" my kidney is. I start on Anti-biotics tomorrow to make sure I don't develope an infection before, during or after the procedure.
I'm not so excited about having to have it removed but I am greatful that I won't have to wait on the edge of my seat indefinately, until it passes. Apparantly, due to its size, there was only about a 40% chance I was going to pass it on my own anyway. Now, I'm waiting for the surgery cooridinator to contact me to schedule. The Dr. does intend to have me all healed up in time to go to Canada on the 23rd.
Thanks again for bein here!

Kidney Stone on March 26, 2008 6:48 pm
Post Date: 3/24/08 6:27 pm OMG I have never experienced anything quite this!
This morning, shortly after getting to work I started getting a mild pain in my right side. I was trying to figure out what I did that I might have pulled a muscle or something. Nope! It started getting worse and I could not find a position that was comfortable. The pain started radiating into my right groin area and I started to get naucious.
Not knowing what it was and that the pain was this bad my co-worker decided I should go to the ER. Since my PCP's office wouldn't even be open for another 45 min. Fortunately, the ER was not busy and they got me in right away. The ER doc was so funny, he told me not to worry, they would get me comfortable fairly quickly that he had more medication than I did pain. They took a urine sample, some blood, and gave me some IV pain meds and anti nausia meds. WHEW relief.
The UA showed blood in my urine but since I've been on my menses for over 2 weeks he decided to do a CAT scan. Yup, there it was, a 6mm Kidney stone. He sent me home with some pain meds. The stone should pass on it's own in a couple of days. I hope it passes quickly. This sucks!
Anyone else out there ever had a Kidney stone? How long did it take to pass? Does it have anything to do with WLS?
Pain sucks! Sue

One year ago today on March 12, 2008 10:31 am
Post Date: 3/12/08 10:30 am I was being admitted into Clovis Community Hospital on surgery morning. I remember being very excited. Poor DH was very nervous and trying is hardest to be calm. I had surgery at 11:30 AM and Dr. Boone said it was textbook and everything went very well. I was back to my room by about 1:30 and walking the hall at 4:00pm. The nurses disconnected my pain management button in the middle of the night because I was not using it. Dr. Higa came by to check on me the next morning and I was released at 11am. My husband drove me the 3 hours home that day. We stopped every 30 minutes so I could walk around. Recovery went very well for me and I was back to work in a week and a half. I did return to work on a Wed. and worked short days for the remainder of the week.
Since surgery I have: Lost 122 pounds and reached DR. goal I cross my legs regularly I have completed a 5K and am signed up for 10K (walk) I don't run out of breath climbing a flight of stairs I don't worry about being able to fit in the chairs I'm smaller now than I have ever been since Jr. High I have made some great friends on OH and haven't even met most of them I am way more active with my daughter I walk the doggy almost everyday My joints don't hurt nearly as much.
I know there are lots more things and I just can't think of them right now. I am very happy with my decision to have WLS and sometimes I wonder why I waited so long.
One word of advise to those that are pre-op. Make sure your head is right BEFORE going into surgery. The surgery takes care of the physical part but not the mental or emotional.
Thank you to the Cali board for the continued support you have given me and everyone else. You all ROCK!
  Sue

My Story I am 34 years old and I feel like I am just beginning my life. My husband Sam and I were married almost 3 years ago and we have a beautiful 2 year old daughter. I have been fighting my weight since about puberty like so many others. I have also been on the weight loss/gain yo yo since I can remember. Everytime I would lose a significant amout of weight, I would gain it back plus some. I actually did really well when I was pregnant and only gained about 20 pounds. After she was born, the pounds started flying on. UP UP UP I went and the harder I tried to get them off, the more I gained. I was crazy....and didn't know what to do. I had started thinking about WLS several years ago, not quite qualifying but not sure it was for me either. About a year and a half ago I started really researching WLS and the different styles. I talked to my PCP and he thought I was a great canditate for it and gave me this one piece of advise. He said, "My experience has shown me, the more invasive the procedure, the better the results." That was all I needed to know the RNY was right for me. My research began focusing on the RNY and the more I learned, the more I knew it was the right one for me. Now, I have to find a surgeon. I found Dr. Keith Boone in Fresno and am very pleased with him. Nutritionis, Psych, and Ob/GYN down, blood work down and surgery scheduled for 8 weeks later. Man, that felt like a LONG time. It really went fast. I went from, "Is it March yet" to "Pre-OP" is tomorrow in no time. I am not quite 4 weeks out of surgery and I know it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm not good about keeping up with a blog but I will try. These boards are magnificent. Peace and Love to all. Sue
