Surgeon Testimonial

Michael H. Wood M.D.
Great Very caring. Office staff is very nice, had no problems. He is strict about the surgeries he performs. He wants you to be healthy, and in good care. Emphasizes alot about after care and that him and our dietician is there for us when we have any questions. Risks were explained in full upfront and to the point. I would rate Dr. Wood a 10 already. I have not had my surgery yet, but I feel I am in good hands. When you are looking for a Doctor, make sure he is caring, understands what you want out of the surgery, and honest and upfront about everything. Doesn't sugar coat anything.

I had my surgery on March 27th, and have had all good experiences with Dr. Wood. This doctor has the best bed side manner I have ever seen. When I was in the hospital he came in my room pulled the chair by my bed and sat with me for a half hour, to make sure everything was ok. He wanted to know how I was feeling, and asked me alot of questions. I tell you this man is a wonderful individual, and I cannot say enough about him.

Today, I had my post op with Dr. Wood. I have already lost 18lbs and I am only 8 days out. WOW.......I am very happy with him.

Well today is May 9 2008, and I had my 1 month post op. I have lost a total of 50lbs. Lost 10 inches off my waist and 4 inches off my hips. WOW>>>>How great.. Dr. Wood, of course was always kind, and very proud of me. He is a wonderful man.

My Story

Hello, my name is Tia and I am 32 years old.  I have been struggling with weight pretty much since I was 18 years old.  I at a young age of 20 got pregnant, and had a miscarriage.  Since, then I have had alot of different problems.  PCOS (Poly-chystic Ovarian Syndrome) irregular periods, and other female problems.  I got married back in 2006 and weighed 280 lbs, now I weigh 332 lbs.  I don't have energy to do anything and I am not fertile, most of the time I stay home and do nothing, or I will get on the computer.  I recently went on a cruise, and had a hard time walking the boat, and the places that I paid to go, this was very upsetting.  I came home and talked to my husband again about having the Gastric Bypass Surgery.  We did some research on it in the past, but did not act on anything.  My best friend of 18 years said to me one day, that she was getting very concerned about my weight.  Her and I have been friends so long she remembers when I was on the thinner side, and always doing stuff.  Unfortunately, since I have gained weight, alot has been taken away from me.  One day my best friend called me and said she was going to go to school to be a medical biller.  She proceeded to go and did great she gratuated in 2007.  She then looked for a job in her profession.  I received a phone call from her that said, "OMG you have to call me right away".  I picked up the phone when I got the message, and she said, "You'll never guess where I got a job"?  I did not have any idea, she said I got a job working for a Doctor that does WLS.  I could not beleive it, I asked her what his name was, and started to do research on him.  I found out that not only is a Doctor for WLS, he is also the Medical Director of the WLS center here in Michigan called the DMC(Harper Hospital)  I said wow I hit the jack pot.  After all my research, I went back to my husband and asked him what he thought we should do.  He said go ahead and start the process, so I did.  I went in for my Pysch eval on February 23, 2008.  I had all my paper work done for everything when I came in, so that I would not have to fool around with it..  My physch eval came back fine.  I figured that....LOL  Then I was called and scheduled for my consultation with Dr. Michael Wood.  He said I would be a good candidate for the Gastric Bypass to get the results I wanted, and he said that is what he recommended.  After the consult with Dr. Woods, I knew at that point I was going to go through with it.  All that needed to be finished was the insurance, and as you all know Insurance can be a pain in the butt.  I had smooth sailing, since my BMI was over 50.  BCN was said to be the hardest insurance to get approved.  I went home and 2 days later I got a call from Lea the patient assistance and the one that puts in for the approvals to the insurance company.  I got approved.  My jouney was smooth sailing, but not everyone is as lucky as me.

Well....I will write after the surgery and tell you how it went.   March 27, 2008 is my surgery, and I can't wait.
