Surgeon Testimonial

Mark A. Shina, M.D.
I really like Dr. Shina, he is very straight forward. He makes his patients quit smoking if they smoke before surgery and it really is a true blessing. I would have no other surgeon do the wls on me besides him. He has a wonderful bedside manner, very compassionate, and always wants the best for his patients. When I called after hours Dr. Shina returned my call very quickly. His office staff is very professional and wonderful. They worked really hard to reschedule my surgery very quickly and as soon as possible. I wooould give his office staff an A+....I never ever had a problem with the staff. I would like to tell his future patients that he is very strick with his rules of before surgery and after surgery but it is for our own good. He is
very strict with his aftercare....I mean if your not going to do what he wants you to do, then why go thru the wls. He explain the risk of this surgery very plain and blunt. And I just praise him for it....Dr. Shina is an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ in my book....To me he is very knowledgeable of this surgery and he a wonderful surgeon. I just can't praise him enough. His surgical competence and bedside manner is just out of this world.. If you would ask me if I would let him do this again, I would definitely have to say yes. I would reccommend him in a heartbeat to anyone.

MY THYROID PROBLEM
on November 18, 2006 8:38 am

I UNDER WENT SOME TEST LAST WEEK (11/14) FOR THE PARATHYROID PROBLEM, WHICH IS LINKED TO HIGH CALICUM LEVELS.  I HAVE HAD HIGH CALICUM LEVELS SINCE I WAS 2 MONTHS POST WLS.  MY WLS DOC RECOMMENDED THAT I SEEK TREATMENT AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON!  AND I DID!  I HAD A SESTAMBI SCAN AND AN ULTRASOUND DONE AND AS WE SUSPECTED I HAVE A TINY CYSTIC STRUCTURE IN THE MID PART OF MY RIGHT THYROID GLAND.  IT IS APPROXIMATELY 4 MM IN DIAMETER.   THERE IS ALSO NO DOMINANT NODULES OR MASSES SUSPECTED.  SO I AM SCHEDULED FOR RIGHT PARATHYROID SURGERY ON 12/05/06 AT BAPTIST EAST HOSPITAL  IN LOUISVILLE, KY.

TODAY I WENT FOR MY 1 YR. WL VISIT.  MY PROTEIN WAS DOWN, DOC TOLD ME TO INCREASE BACK TO 3X A DAY AND EAT MORE HIGH PROTEIN FOODS.  I ALSO WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SEE A DR. HODGE FOR MY PARATHYROID GLANDS.  SEEMS THAT MY PARATHYROID GLANDS ARE PRODUCING WAY TOO MUCH CALICUM.  DR. SHINA SAY THAT IT WILL HAVE TO COME OUT.  SO I SEE DR. HODGE ON THE 8TH FOR A CONSULT.  BUT I AM  AT MY GOAL WT.  WOOHOO.  I HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF 104# IN 1 YR.   THANKS DR. SHINA, I LOVE YA.
