Surgeon Testimonial

Brian Gluck, D.O.
Dr. Gluck was very informative and gave me alot of hope when other places I contacted told me I had to gain more before I would be able to have surgery. I really thought his staff was great and so helpfull every time I call to ask questions. He's very strict about what you can and can't do and you need to be able to follow his program exactly. I have such hopes for surgery now that I have had my first visit with him.

Dr. Gluck was wonderful and the most dedicated surgeon I have ever had. and I have had many. He did a wonderful job and even called me at the hotel to see how I was doing on Saturday, when I have an appointment on Monday. In my book he's a 10 +++

Well, I've survived the two week liquid fast, one more day of clear liquids then surgery on tuesday @ 7:30 a.m.
I will probably be in the hospital until Thursday. Ralph doesn't know too much about the computer, so he will call the family and let them know how I did in surgery. I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll post when I feel up to it.

One Year !
on February 11, 2009 3:19 pm
Hi All; Today I am one year out from the sleeve. I feel good, but I have only lost half of the weight I thought would be gone by now. I work out on the treadmill anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 miles a day, watch what I'm eating and still no weight loss. At my nine month checkup they thought that I might not be getting enough protein, and maybe I'm not, but they don't want me to do the protein shakes, use only food. I finally found a support group and have been to two meetings so far that I really think will be helpfull and lately I've been going to fit day and logging my food and it looks pretty good. I don't go to the Dr's until the 16th of March, so we will see what he has to say. I'm pretty dissapointed in myself and feel like I have failed the tool. Hopefully between meetings and whatever the Dr. tell's me I can get this going again real soon.

2 months out 4/11/2008
on April 7, 2008 9:53 am
Hi, I haven't visited my page for a long time and thought it was time I updated. I went to my 5 week check up with Dr. Gluck and had lost 20 lb's. I thought I was losing too slow, but he said I was right where I should be. I gave him a quilt and he said that his wife Jennifer and him would be fighting with each other over who gets to cuddle with it. As you know, I didn't have any idea if I could even get the RNY or the sleeve before surgery and when I woke up from surgery and found out that he did the sleeve,m the first thing I said was that he was getting a quilt. I am so gratefull for his skill as a surgeon.

2 months now and I am down 29.5 lb.s as of this morning. I'm pretty much on a regular food, but I do watch my intake of carbs so I don't eat many of those. I find it very easy to get in all my protein and fluids. I'm so thirsty though. I'd love to get a big tall glass of water and just chug it down. I use to do that all the time, but don't want to hurt my belly. I only have dumped one time with fish, but I think I drank a little too soon after eating. I do need to up my exercise, but I'm still taking naps in the afternoon as I get real tired about 2:30 p.m.

see you in a month. Terri

I'm Home and doing great
on February 14, 2008 3:28 am
I got home yesterday afternoon and feel really good. A little sore on the left side as everyone knows how normal this is. Thank you for all the prayers and support at a time that was really needed. I'm so happy that the Dr. could give me the sleeve, and the hospital staff was very nice. So glad to be on the losers bench. will update more later. Terri

Tomarrow I start my 2 week fast before surgery on the 11 of February. I'm not really nervous, just happy to finally have this time come as I have been waiting a long time. I went for my pre op with the Dr. and for my blood work on Thursday morning. Dr. Gluck will try to do the RNY, but because of a previous surgery (for gerd) may have to do the Gast sleeve instead. I really don't care which, and told him that I have all the confidence in the world in him and he would know what to do when he get's in there, more than I would, so I will leave it up to him and pray that he can do one or the other. He said that he may get in and see that he can't do either of the surgery's on me without causing me harm so then he would have to close me up. This is the only thing I'm scared of happening. I want this tool so badly to help me on with a better life. Please pray that I come out of surgery with one of the surgery's and I'm on the loser's bench along with so many other's that have done so well. This is a long journey, not an easy way out and it takes a lot of hard work and determination just to get thru the paperwork, test's and approval from the insurance company. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Terri

My Story

I wasn't the tipically overweight child all my life, I was always thin. When I graduatd from high school I only weighed 102 pounds. I gained a little after giving birth to each of my 2 children, but it was always below 125 until my thyroid went crazy and they had to remove the right side. I seemed to gain weight every year and just couldn't seem to keep it off. Every diet I went on I would lose and then gain it all back plus more. In 2000 I went with my sister Jan to Barix to see about gastric surgery. I was told I wasn't enough overweight to have it and I would have to gain more. Every year for the past seven I have checked to see if I weighed enough now as I keep gaining, but NO not enough. I kept getting fatter and more depressed. I had alot of female problems, surgery for gurd, and my knees were killing me when I went up or down the stairs. Then my ankles started giving out on me when I walked, I'd almost fall down as I never knew when they would give out. I was so depressed last year that I couldn't even go to the basement sewing room and quilt, something I love to do. I only went out of the house on Fridays to do the grocery shopping, and once in a while to visit my sister or my mom. I didn't feel like I had anyone to talk to as my sister's husband is retired and always at home with her and my Mom is not the kind of person I could ever talk to about anything. Whatever I do she say's it stupid, why did you do that??? My husband is very supportive, but was working 11/12 hours a day 6/7 days a week. besides men don't understand why your depressed or why you don't go anywhere as I'm home all day and I could go any time I wanted to. I just couldn't make myself do anything. I'd quickly go thru the house before he came home and then start supper, which he would eat after his shower, then it was a little news, sports, and off to bed so he could get up at 1:00 a.m. and do it all over again. I understand why he's working so hard this year so he can retire in July of 2008 with a nice nest egg. but I told him I was practicing to be a widow as I didn't really see much of him. Anyway, enough of my boaring life. In April while surfing the web I came across the Life Without Limits web page for WLS and e-mailed them and told them of some of my problems, weight and so forth. They called about an hour later and let me cry my eyes out when they told me that with all the problems and my BMI of 38.1 that I could qualify for surgery. She couldn't fit me in for all my appointments for the May seminar, so I had to wait for the June 7 one. I saw Dr. Gluck, the Nutritionist and had my physc evaluation all that day. I had to get all done as it is about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive for me. I then had to have an upper GI about 2 weeks later. Then it took forever to get me schedualed for an EDG, not until Sept. 7th. Finally on October 3rd. they called to tell me I have a date. It's not until February 11, 2008. I had a stress test this past Monday and I'm set to go. I have to go to see Dr. Gluck on January 24th and see the nutritionist. I start my two week fast on Jan. 28th. and then back to get my bloodwork on Feb 1st. Lots of driving in the winter which I'm not looking forward to (I hate driving in snow), but it will all be worth it in the end. Up-date--- I called the Hospital and got them to change my bloodwork for the same day as the Dr. and Nutritionist. Thank God I don't have to make another trip until the day before my surgery.
