I am a 33 year old single mother of two beautiful daughters, 16 years and 13 years. I reside in beautiful Central California. After struggling with various health issues such as sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma, I decided to research having WLS (Gastric Lap Band). Its been a long process. I began my initial testing in Oct 06, it is now Feb 07 and I have been approved by my insurance, and medically cleared by my primary care provider. My surgery date is set for 03/05/07, and I couldn't be more happy!!!
In 13 months I have reached my goal weight of 140 --- and of course I decided I'm not completely satisfied...SOOOO ... my new goal weight of 130 is in effect. Also shopping for a plastic surgeon in hopes of getting a tummy tuck by early next year. It seems I have finally gotten a handle on what I can and cannot eat and getting used to this new lifestyle. No soda, No burgers, Practically no bread/pasta/rice (I did cheat on this on a few times) and No cigarettes in over a year. I feel like a brand new woman!!!
Just three days shy of my one year bandiversary and I'm feeling great!!!! I am down 79lbs, just 12lbs short of my goal weight. Down from 221 to 142 lbs and in a size 4....AMAZING!!! I couldn't be happier. I have also helped two friends get the lap band and they too have lost an amazing amount of weight thus far. I can't say enough wonderful things about this procedure. As long as you stick to the rules and commit to the lifestyle change the results are awesome. My only regret is that I didn't do this procedure much sooner!!! Also, I am off ALL the blood pressure and asthma medication. God is good!!!
Haven't posted in a while, but I'm happy to say that I'm doing Great!!! Now down to a size 10...and OMG I haven't worn a size 10 since Jr. High!!! I've had three fills thus far. I don't know how full my band is, and quite honestly I dont really care...just so long as it keeps on workin. I'm still slowly learning to listen to the warning signs from my body telling me when I've had enough to eat. Sometimes its so hard to not eat those last 2-3 bites :). I'm also still slowly adjusting to sipping and not guzzling. Bad habits are hard to break. Overall, this is the best decision I could have ever made for my health. I dont regret a thing.
Today I went in for my first band adjustment.....I was TERRIFIED!!! I didnt know what to expect after reading so many different stories on this site about painful fills, and having to be stuck numerous times before finding the port site. MANNNNN, I was worried for nothing. The entire procedure took all of 10 minutes. They took a picture (x-ray) of my tummy which allowed me to see the band, that was really kewl. After that my Doctor injected the port area with some numbing stuff...then he used a BIG syringe (or at least it looked big to me, I didnt see the needle) to inject the saline into the band. After that, he had me drink some barium, and I was able to watch the liquid go down my esophagus and trickle through the stoma....that just amazed me. So, I'm back home, my band feels good and tight again and Im ready to keep droppin these pounds like they're hot.
Oh..by the way...did I mention that I'm down 17 lbs since my surgery date...total of 26 lbs pre-op. God is good!!!
26 days post-surgery and now down 14lbs!!! This is so amazing to me. I havent even had a fill yet. I never thought it would be happening so fast. I have been sticking to the program and starting Monday I get to start eating SOLID FOOD!!! Praise the Lord. I've eaten all the tuna, refried beans and soup I can stand. 04/10 - will be my first fill, and I cant wait!!!
