Surgeon Testimonial

Andrew Aldridge M.D., F.A.C.S.
I like Dr. Aldridge. He's very personable, knowledgable and sincere. He explains things well and he truely seems to care about people.

He did a wonderful job on my VSG, so far I am very happy with the results and the aftercare is top-notch.

I don't have anything negative to say about him or his staff.

Monday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Free Falling by Tom Petty
on January 30, 2008 5:42 am

OK that song doesn’t have anything to do with my situation but I’ve been thinking about it since last Monday when I saw Dr. Langsdorf. I was telling him how I feel about the weight loss.  It’s just happening with very little effort on my part and I wonder when it will stop or at least become difficult.  “You feel like you are freefalling”, he paraphrased.  He’s good, that’s exactly how I feel.

I still have about 40 lbs to lose.  I haven’t had a plateau or stall but I am waiting for it, nervously.  Some weeks I don’t lose as much as others, but there is always at least a little loss each week. I would consider myself a somewhat slow but steady loser.

Hair loss hasn’t started, I’m pretty sure it will though.  I get my protein now but I didn’t in the first month so I expect some hair loss.

Other than being apprehensive about when the weight loss will stop and the hair loss will begin, things are going well.
I feel better than I have in years!

Originally I was looking into the Lap-Band procedure and I would have had it if Dr. Aldridge hadn’t told me about the Sleeve and Dr. Langsdorf hadn’t denied me…that’s right, I was told that I was not a candidate for Lap-Band at that time (July/Aug of 07), thank goodness and Dr. Langsdorf!   The Sleeve is so right and the Band would have been so wrong for me.  I am fortunate that I had forward thinking docs who knew what I needed even if I didn’t. It's not to say that they told me what to do, they suggested and I was listening.

Yes, I still love my VSG, the honeymoon isn’t over…

At a local car dealership the service writer, who is an acquaintance and fellow Jeep enthusiast that hasn’t seen me in awhile asked about the weight loss, then he asked how much I lost.  “About five pounds”, I said.  The look of shock on his face was precious!  After he realized I was kidding I admitted that I had lost 70 lbs.  I’m gonna have to play that one again!

Couldn’t do that 10 weeks ago...
on January 20, 2008 6:03 pm

I went out hiking today, in the snow, and hiked over three miles.  I was using poles so it was a real body workout.  It was tough. I’m nearly exhausted. I can hardly wait ‘til next time. WHAT FUN!!

Update
on January 17, 2008 9:08 am

More than half way to my goal and I’m already feeling like the real me, enjoying life. I keep wanting to use the term ‘the new me’ but that’s not accurate.  This is the ‘real’ me I just hadn’t seen ME in many years, physically or mentally!

This is the first time in years that I have not worried about losing weight.  It’s almost like my fat is losing itself and I'm just a passenger on the ride.  I know I’m still fat but I'm no longer apprehensive about losing it.

Food-wise, I was never a ‘snacker’ and I think that helps a lot.   I eat five times a day, mostly proteins.  Pre-op I used to eat three times a day or less but I over-ate at nearly every meal.  I don’t eat the veggies that I should, I'm too full after the proteins. I eat very few carbs and almost never eat anything with refined sugar, just like the pre-op me.  Portion sizes are extremely small but I think I’ll be able to eat more as time goes by.

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Aldridge and Dr. Langsdorf.  I think that their abilities have really made this whole process bearable and in some ways very pleasurable.

Yes, I love my VSG!

Day 7 menu - The last of the series, I promise
on January 11, 2008 7:52 pm
Breakfast
1 cup of coffee with soy creamer and artificial sweetner, 1/4 egg with cheese and 1 slice of bacon...yeah baby a whole slice, that's a first since surgery!

Lunch
1 cup of Clam Chowder soup, I didn't eat the potatoes or carrots so it's really only about 1/2 a cup.

Snack
New-whey protein bullet

Dinner and snack later
2 oz of shrimp and 1 oz of French cut green beans.

If someone had asked me a week ago how many times a day I eat I would have said six to eight times.  I am fairly sure that this past weeks menu is typical for me since surgery and I ate only 5 times each day.
