Surgeon Testimonial

Monte Schwartz, M.D., FACS
My first impression was that Dr. Schwartz was very professional, and detail in his approach. This impression did not change as the process went on. His staff has continued to be very helpful as both my wife and I have had RNY procedures. The staff took a personal approach to our procedures and healing. Also, they were willing to set up multiple follow up appointments and assist in processing short term disability paperwork. They had an excellent surgery preparation seminar and support group meetings are held weekly. Dr. Schwartz helped me feel that this wasn't a \"cookie cutter\" surgery, but addressed the entire process with a personalized approach. His staff is FAB.

One more week, back to the Gym
on May 20, 2007 11:01 pm
Today was my first day back to the gym, and I have a feeling that I'm going to be hurting tomorrow.  I did a pretty good upper body workout, but I haven't really done any lifting in about 10 years.  It was something I actually enjoyed doing back when I was around my goal weight.  I think returning to the gym has made me realize that alot of my priorities have been on other people since I got married and we had our 4 kids.  Now that I've begun losing weight, and I'm required to take care of myself as a priority, I'm starting to see how many thing for "me" have gone by the wayside over the past few years.  Needless to say, I am feeling pretty pumped up, and I think it's probably because I had alot of muscle just waiting to be flexed, now that I've lost all of this weight.  I'm now down 71 pounds since the end of February, and feeling FAB. (Besides being tired right now at 11pm on a Sunday night.

I have a busy week ahead of me, as it leads into the holiday weekend, and it is "financial reporting close" week for my work.  May not be logging on much in the next few days, but I'm looking forward to a 3-4 day weekend this next week depending if I get my 40 hours in by Thursday (likely).  We've been talking about potentially going camping the holiday weekend, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Shumway update
on May 14, 2007 8:56 pm

The transition back to work has been great for me, but buzy.  Jodell seems to have bounced back as well.  I have now lost 67 pounds, and am 2 months post surgery.  Jodell has lost 35 pounds, and is just 2 weeks behind me.  My pants size has gone from a 52 waist to a 44 waist size.  Unfortunately, I've had a harder time finding clothes 2nd hand due to a 34" inseam.  This last weekend I bought contact lenses, after wearing glasses for the past 15 years or so.  They have come a long way since I tried them out 10 years ago, and I think I'm going to stick with them for a while.

I look and feel so much better than I did 2 months ago.  Not only have I lost 67 pounds, but I've also shaved my beard and bought contact lenses.  I know I'm still a big nerd, but I'm currently enjoying no longer having my vision "framed".

Jodell is also looking fabulous.  She is losing, but not as quickly as she'd like.  I think the main reason is that the heat is coming on here in AZ, and she was hoping to be smaller before sporting a swimsuit.  Her energy seems to be rebounding, but our lives are buzy and leave us tired at the end of the day.
