Surgeon Testimonial

Adam Smith, D.O., F.A.C.O.S
I met with Dr. Smith on 2/7/07. He was very nice and laid back. He went through everything with me and he felt I would be a great candidate for surgery. He let me feel the port under his skin to see what it is like. He was extremely professional. He is very big on aftercare and overall change of life habits. rnrnI can't say enough about Dr. Smith. Since he is a Lap-band patient himself, he truly understands what we are going through. Susee, his nurse, is a lap-band patient as well as is always there to assist the patients.rnrnDr. Smith is well respected in the medical community and I felt 100% confident with him providing my surgery. He is very educated on the lap-band surgery and has great bedside manner.rnrnI had some issue with getting fills in the beginning. Availability was hard! They have worked on the fill issues. They have another doctor now and it is easy to get in for a fill within a few days.rnrnI highly recommend Dr. Smith and I would do it again in a heart beat. They have commended me along the way and held me accountable. I could have never done it without Dr. Smith and Susee cheering me on!rn

I lost 3.8 this week
on July 30, 2007 7:27 am
Well, I am so excited that I lost 3.8 this week. I was so nervous about gaining weight because I went to New Mexico for three days. This was the first time I have been on a trip since surgery. I did really good and followed rules and watched what I ate. When they made dinner, I just ate whatever they made and ate around it. We went to a festival and everyone had these huge plates of food. I just had my hubby get me a hot dog and I ate the dog and threw away the bun. I actually had two. I was so hungry that day.

Yesterday, we were traveling back from New Mexico. I had lowfat chocolate milk in the morning because I have super restriction in the morning. Then, for lunch we were driving threw and hubby wanted sonic. I had the snack pack popcorn chicken (I know very unhealthy) but I didn't want to take a chance of getting sick on something else. I ate several and hubby ate the last 5-6 of them.

I guess this trip is preparing me for our big vacation on August 21st. We are going on a cruise to Alaska and will be gone for 10 days. I am worried about eating while on the cruise but I also know we will be walking our butts off!

I am so excited to be 58.2 pounds down!! It is so exciting to see the scale move! My Labor Day Goal is to be 75 pounds down by Labor Day. So, I have 16.8 to go. I sure hope I can do it!

Went to my PCP!
on July 20, 2007 6:11 am
I had a follow-up with my PCP yesterday. I wanted to go in and have my levels checked about four months after surgery. I wanted to give my time to heal and get into a routine and keep in her the loop of my weight loss.

Well, I was so excited to show her I was down 54 pounds. She was excited.

The better news....

Cholesterol dropped 28 points (it was normal before surgery but now she is VERY HAPPY)

Triglecerides dropped 32 points (again, it is below normal and she is very happy)

HDL - Dropped 14

LDL - Dropped 7 points

She said that she is thrilled with my progress and doesn't want to see me until six more months, unless I have any issues. For once, it was so nice to hear such great things on my visit. I was nervous about weighing. Even though I am still heavy, it was nice to weight in 54 pounds lighter than last time I was there!  YIPPEE!!!!

DOWN 54 POUNDS

I can't believe it. I have lost more weight! I lost another 1.4 for a total of 54 pounds lost. Wow, it is exciting. My husband says to remember these times since I was kind upset from a two week plateau and weight gain.

YIPPPEEEEEEEE

SCALE IS BEING NICE-Down 52.4
on July 17, 2007 7:47 am
Can I just say after being frustrated and trying to figure out what I am doing wrong the scale was nice to me this morning. I dropped two pounds!  Yippe!!

I am excited to see things continue. I really want to stay focused and get below 300...wow would that be awesome. I haven't seen below 300 since high school.

BEST OF LUCK TO ANYONE READING THIS!  I am right there with you and we can do it!

FRUSTRATED
on July 16, 2007 6:15 am
I just don't understand why the scale is not moving for me. It was moving great every week and then I hit a slump. It is very depressing and I try to remember that I can't base everything on the scale. I just feel like I should see better results and when the scale doesn't go down or stays the same, it makes me feel like I am failing.

I have really evaulated everything I am doing. My husband reassures me that I am doing things right since he is around me and sees what I am doing, but it is just kind of hard when you don't understand why things aren't going as fast as you want them to.
