Surgeon Testimonial

Luis Garcia, M.D.
First impressions are lasting ones. He had a small dry humor about him.I knew months before that he was who I wanted after reading his profile online from our Gastric bypass web site. His office staff have been nice, smile alot and offer lots of information and keep you posted on developments. Others that are meeting him for the first time some may think he is to laid back. Give him the chance, all around nice guy. He was VERY up front about the risks of surgery and the risks of not having surgery. He cuts right to the chase. I think he is a nice doctor and like I said has that dry humor and good bed side manner about him. After meeting with him over the past two years and trusting him for 3 (yes, not a typo) surgeries, I can say that I totally trust my life to his hands.

Weight Reality
on February 29, 2012 7:26 am
I have not posted here in 4 months.

In that time a few things in life have changed. The most important one is that Weight loss/ weight gain will forever be a part of our lives. We are the ones in control of what happens on a day to day basis.

My scale makes me mad and I am finally after three yrs and plus months avoiding it more, there is no longer that urge to weight in every day. Why?

Because the weight loss has stopped and the bounce bake is here. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason some days. I can switch between 8 to 12 pounds difference in a day to day life whirlwind. Problem?

Hell yeah! Drives me crazy. Dealing with the issues of a female getting older and making the move to her next realm in life the dreaded "change" I am sure that added to the mix is not helping this bouncing. I must make more changes.

Ok, now that I have ranted and blowin off some steam, it is time to get back to work. Just wanted to chime in and let everyone know I am just as normal as the next person and still face the same issues as others, none of us are perfect.

Take care/chime in

They were earned
on October 8, 2011 8:53 am
My mom earned her angel wings on Oct 5th, she is now at peace. I was raised by a strong woman and that is what I have become. I shall make it through this. Life has been crazy and stress levels at the highest for the past few months. With that being said yes a few pounds have returned, maybe up to 15#. I will get back on track when things settle down. I have the gift of not turning to food during stress, I actually just don't eat which is just as bad as eating. Hospice told us at this point we just needed to make sure we had something in our tummys even if it wasn't the correct tiems, it would still keep us alive and energized. Eating will be important again in a few days.

My Story

Greetings!
I am nearing the last hoop jumps prior to having my bypass. The journey to this point has been a bit fustrating to say the least. I have had waiting periods between appointments that seemed to drag out forever. I have finally received my approval letter from insurance and am waiting on a date to be set for surgery( it is set for Aug 12,2008!). I am finally to a point where I can be a little excited knowing this is really going to happen. Then the real journey will begin!
My history is much the same as others. I grew up in The twin cities (St Paul). Had many friends, was the rebel of many causes. Family was as normal as a one parent family could be. We all pulled together and got things done.
I grew up, got married, left home, had kids (ok maybe a couple times), After having my 4th child and coming home in my size 7 jeans- life was still good.
Then it happened! Weight started to invade my cells and poof there I was out buying sweat pants and tennis shoes (I had never owned). Yes, we grab for the comfy clothes to at least feel good in them while we continue to balloon.
I was maybe in denile a few years about my weight as I had no other health concerns and life was good. I really didn't think a thing of the weight I put on as the same thing had happened to my mother around the same age it hit me. I thought it was in the "genes". Maybe it was/is. I have never researched it to find out
My doctor for the last few yrs was never really concerned about my weight. He just kept telling me to keep up the good work and what I was doing. So if he wasn't worried about it,I guess I shouldn't be either!. I kept doing my walking of 3 miles at least 4 times a week, lead an active life, lifted adults in and out of beds/wheelchairs etc.. I was actually pretty fit.
March of 2007 I woke to not being able to move out of bed,got stuck not being able to get off the toilet (took 5 minutes to stand) and calling into work. I suffered 2 days in bed and then went to hit the Chiro office for an adjustment (that took 3 months) and MRI and back rehab. I have degenerated disc diease. Change of career was made,Doctor orders were follwed,. Along with a bout of tennis elbow and then finding out I have degernrated shoulders, and palnter facitits in one foot. Yeah alot of stuff to take in over 6 months!
I then asked my Doctor for the referal to Gastric bypass. We (self and other half) went to the informational meeting,I filled out papers and sent them in and the process has began. I have had my head shrink eval (and passed!), Been throught 3 months of nutirtion classes (required) and will be having surgery on Aug 12.
I am now to the point of getting a little excited about the end result. I think my doctor is on board AFTER I had a heart to heart with him, reminding him I need him on board as he WILL be doing the follow up care. He is not a firm believer in the surgery and says he isn't for it or againist it-whatever that truely means! Just get on board and take care of business. I really don't like getting ugly about things but ya know- He did take an oath to become a doctor and by gosh-chop chop!! Yep, I have no patience for stuff like that (could ya guess?) laughs
Updates as I advance
