It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~JudyAnne~

My Story

I have been overweight my entire life.  I remember  going to WW with an Aunt when I was in 5th or 6th grade.  I was given injections of HCG  around that time also.  In 9th grade I went to fat camp & lost 35 lbs, got down to 165, I kept that off thru most of High School.  Then I discovered Boys!  I ate everything they did, partied & drank like they did.  I gained & gained & gained somemore.

I've never been able to wear normal clothes, never been below a size 16/18.  That is something I am looking forward to.  In grade school I remember shopping at Sears, and I always had to get my clothes from the Husky boys section, you know the kind with the reinforced knees.   I don't like dresses, I think the last time I wore one was at my wedding 15 years ago & that was only because I had to.   Now I am a 26/28.

In 1997/98 I tried to get the RNY approved. I worked for Aetna & they covered it & everyone else who worked there was getting it.  So I figured not a problem for me,  I had a BMI of 45, my back had been hurting since I was 19 (and still is),  I was so sure I would get approval.  NOPE! DENIED!  Appealed, my mom even wrote a letter about my lifetime of obesity, & all the dieting.  Again Nope DENIED.  I couldn't beleive it!   Everyone else got approved, why not me?  Still don't have the answer to that one.  They did change their coverage policy, so that may have something to do with it.

Fast forward to 2007/08

I have been married for 15 years, I have an 18 year old son, & have gained & lost & gained more, & lost some.  My DH has been/was completely opposed to my having this surgery, then  a close friend of his died suddenly.  He did not have a weight problem.  DH now says that he will now support me, since i am doing this to improve my health, & hopefully my having this will help him lose some weight also.  My son thinks I'm STUPID, why don't I just diet.  Been there done that.  Well my whole family is overweight so maybe its not so easy.  He should know.

Honestly, I think alot of obesity has to do with genetics, and of course what we put in our bodies.  But why can some people eat whatever they want & never gain & their whole family is like that?

So the journey starts.....................
