Surgeon Testimonial

Nick Nicholson, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Have only been to a seminar so far but Dr. Nicholson was wonderful. He answered all my questions and then some. I'm looking forward for the whole process to be complete.

Friday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Ready to start over!
on December 2, 2008 7:45 am
It has been one year and 4 months since I was banded.  This has been an amazing journey as well as scarey.  I lost a total of 50 pounds with a really good fill.  In June of 2008 my youngest son had a stroke and for some strange reason my fill went from comfortable to TOO tight.  I was getting stuck with everything I ate.  I was suprised that with not being able to eat very much at all you can gain weight.  I put on about 18 pounds!  I went and got some fill taken out and was really enjoying food again.  Too much to be exact.  I am headed back to the doctor today to get another fill and to get back on track.  I would love to lose those 18 pounds by Christmas but to do that I know that I need to refocus and stop the madness with the food.

6 Weeks Post-Op
on September 9, 2007 3:15 pm
Well, I was told today by Krista that I needed to update my blog so here goes.

I am now 6 weeks post op and just had my first fill on 9/6/07.  Fills are a breeze!!  The doctor told me that since my port was so easy to get to that I did not have to make an appointment to get a fill next time just to come on in since it only took maybe 30 seconds to do.

I am down almost 25 pounds since surgery and feel great.  I have so much more energy already.  Just to give alittle background info on myself.  Not too long ago I was the Mom that took naps EVERYDAY!!  I would tell my kids that I was going to rest for a little while and they could play video games or watch a movie but to leave Mom alone for just a bit.  This past weekend I took both boys to a Eddie Coker concert at the preschool that I work at 3 days a week.  Then on Saturday I took them to play Putt Putt golf and to the batting cages.  My husband works really weird hours since he is in the Telecommunications business so even when he gets off work he still comes home and works on the computer and has to take calls from his cable guys out in the field and he has to work Saturdays and is off on Sunday and Monday.   Anyway, before losing weight I never would have gone to a kids concert (where you have to get up and do silly dances) or to play Putt Putt by myself.  I am deathly shy and for me to get out there and meet people at support groups and to go places by myself even though kids are with me sometimes I never would have done it before WLS.

The weight I am now is what I weighed when I got married 14 years ago.  After being 250 pounds just 10 years ago I never thought I would see the scale numbers go down.  WLS was the best decision that I could have made for myself and my family.  I can't wait to see what the future hold for me.

Count down begins
on July 24, 2007 9:27 am
Well, it is three days till I join the loser bench!!  There are alot of emotions that I have right now..... sacred, excited, determined, unsure but over all just ready to be thin.  The OH boards have been wonderful in answering so many questions.  I don't know what I would have done without all of you.  I will post again as soon as the surgery is over.

Met with Dr. Nicholson at Baylor Plano and he answered all my questions plus some and at the end was asked when I want to have my surgery.  I was shocked.  I was not expecting it to go that fast.  Well,  I have picked July 27th as the big day.

Approved then Denied
on January 12, 2007 2:39 pm
Well, on Dec 14th I received my approval letter...... for the Band!!  I really want the VSG after all the research I have done I feel that it is the best option for me.  The surgeons office refiled for the VSG and today (Jan 12th) I received my deniel letter.  Ins stated that they did not have enough evidence that the procedure was safe and effective.  I have already started the appeal process so hopefully I will not have to be a lurker for too much longer!!

April 10, 2007

Well, after much re-researching again I have decided that the band would be better for me.  The surgeon that I have choosen does the fills at no cost (included in the banding price).  I have read alot of great posts from some wonderful people and can not wait to get the ball rolling.  I have started working out 3 to 4 days a week and am just so excited at what the future may hold.  I will update as soon as I hear from the doctor that it was approved!!!

My Story

I am a 36 year old wife and mother of 2 absolutely beautiful boys.  I am about 90 lbs. overweight and am tired of being fat and tired all the time.  I think I am in pretty good health.  I have high cholestorol and just within the last few months have had what I call are heart palpatations or what feels like your heart skipping a beat.  My doctor put me on Crestor 2 weeks ago and I go back in 4 weeks to have my cholestorol checked again.  He did not seem too concerned with the heart beat issue.  I went to a WLS seminar on the 14th of November held by Dr. Nick Nicholson with Baylor Medical in Plano.  The first letter has been sent to my Ins. and now I am playing the waiting game.  In the mean time I have been on the OH website everyday reading the message boards as well as personal profiles.  I am scared to death that if I do have the surgery that something will happen and my kids will grow up without their mother but then again if I don't my weight my be the cause of my death in itself.
