Surgeon TestimonialRichard Gordon, M.D., FRCSCI met Dr. Gordon for the first time in October, 2006, about two weeks prior to my surgery. He was very professional and personable as well. He offerred lots of information and related on an "equal" level, which I appreciated very much, having been condescended to more often than not when dealing with physicians. He's very down to earth and easy to talk to, and by the end of the session, I felt completely at ease and knew I was in extremely capable hands.
As a precursor to this visit, I met with three other bariatric surgeons in my area, and Dr. Gordon surpassed them by leaps and bounds on every level. He did a year long fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida performing only bariatric surgery which is quite an accomplishment and speaks for itself. I feel as though he genuinely cares for his patients, and will go the extra step to ensure safety and the best clinical care possible for his patients.
His staff is equally outstanding, from the reception staff to the billing staff, to Kelly, his nurse, and of course Chris, his nurse practitioner who provides a plethora of invaluable information and assistance.
Aftercare is stressed, with regular appointments scheduled at crucial intervals post surgery.
Between Dr. Gordon, Chris and Kelly, I was provided with a very objective view of weight loss surgery - they are all "straight shooters" and do not sugar coat anything, however they have also been reassuring and helpful with questions and issues I've had both pre and post surgery.
Julie Douglass, the bariatric coordinator for the Morton Plant Mease hospital system, also works closely with Dr. Gordon's staff facilitating numerous monthly support group meetings and information sessions. She also meets one on one with pre-op bariatric patients. She and Chris even stopped by to see me twice while I was in the hospital after surgery. I have had cause to phone the offices of both Dr. Gordon and Julie Douglass on several occasions since surgery, and have always been received warmly, and treated with utmost respect.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Gordon, his staff, and associates as SUPERIOR!
There is another very well known surgeon in this area who I met with while researching this surgery, and without naming names, Dr. Gordon puts the other guy to shame on every level! I am so thankful that I found Dr. Gordon when I did, and my better half and I have talked many times about how blessed we have been to have Dr. Gordon as my surgeon instead of "Dr. X".
This is the team to turn to if you are considering weight loss surgery in the Tampa Bay area!
I do realize that there is a statement contained within this posting area that basically says that no one is completely perfect, and to be "objective" in my review by including negatives. I apologize, however, I do not have anything negative to say in conjunction with the care I have received from Dr. Gordon and his staff. They are professional, helpful, concerned, genuine, and caring.
Thank you, Dr. Gordon, Chris, Kelly, Julie and staff! You are all the "Best of the Best"!

My name is Terri, and my "Re-Birth Date" was November 7, 2006 when I had my RNY. I was scared to death, but it was truly the kindest, most loving thing I have ever done for myself.
I am able to do things I havn't been able to in 25 years - horseback ride, hike in the Colorado Rockies, SNOW SKI! (YAYY!!) ride my bike comfortably, sit in an airline seat WITHOUT a seatbelt extender, AND have lots of slack when I fasten the belt!, cross my legs, shop for clothes in "regular" stores (not the "big girl's" stores"), kneel with my back straight in church, SINK when I swim, ZIPLINE!, dance without sweating buckets, my list can go on and on.

My Story
I co-own my travel agency, Ruby Cruises, LLC with my partner in life and better half, Greg. Together we have built and managed our successful business, and as a result, we are able to enjoy sharing our many blessings with the local community through our work with senior citizen's groups, church youth groups, and even a local little league!
I am a full time, degree seeking student - a Creative Writing Major, and will graduate (with honors!) in May, 2008. In addition to my agency and school, I am authoring a book about my WLS experience, and it will hopefully be published SOON!
My favorite place on earth is in the Colorado Rockies. We try to go at least twice a year, and Fall is my favorite time to go. I LOVE seeing the Aspens turn. Winter is spectacular, and I cannot WAIT to hit the slopes at Keystone and Vail this season!
I have two beautiful daughters, and one WONDERFUL son-in-law. Christina is my eldest, is single, and will be 26 years old this October. Amanda is my 23 year-old "baby", married Randy in 2005, and they are expecting their first baby, (my first GRANDSON!), Jacob Scott this fall! I can't WAIT to spoil him silly!! Randy is in the Air Force, and unfortunately, a week or so after they discovered they were expecting, he was deployed to Kunsan Air Base in Korea, where he will remain until May, 2008. Fortunately, he will come home just before Jacob's birth, and has a month's leave, and we are all looking forward to an exciting fall.
Greg and I also have two Labs, who are ALSO our "children"! The oldest is Beaureguard Bocephus Bleu (Beau), and he is a 5 year-old Yellow Lab. Benjamin Buford Bleu (Ben) is a 2 year-old Black Lab. Christina (my eldest daughter) is staying with us, and has our GRAND-DOGGIE, Brutus, a 2 year-old Boston Terrier. We also have an Umbrella Cockatoo named Tico (with issues! Don't ask!), and a 15 year old Cockatiel named Tom (who is pretty grouchy, but loves to whistle the "Andy Griffith" tune!). Yes, we have a ZOO!
We purchased our home in January, 2005, and we are SO happy here. Our home sits on an acre of land on a small lake. It's so peaceful and beautiful. We DID have a 7 1/2 foot alligator removed from our lake (from our yard! I have pictures of the whole thing!)! We have Sand Hill cranes, Blue Herrons, White Herrons, Osprey, swans, and an assortment of various species of ducks who call our back yard and beach "home".
I am a native Chicagoan (GO BEARS!!!!!!), and have lived in Florida since 1991 (Jacksonville, Clearwater, and New Port Richey....long story, for another time!)
I am so blessed to have a large, loving extended family, am the youngest of three girls, and have loads of relatives throughout the country. I am also equally blessed to have had my best friend in the entire world, CIndy, in my life since we were 9 YEARS OLD! That's a friendship of nearly 40 YEARS!! She lives near Madison, Wisconsin now, so we don't see each other as much as we'd like, but we chat online daily, and on the phone a couple times a week.
Well, that's my story!
