John Mason, M.D.
Dr Mason is fabulous. He explained my VSG surgery very accurately. He is so professional yet friendly and comforting. He's the BEST! You rock Dr. M!

FRUSTRATION
on August 27, 2008 8:06 am
Why is my weight loss so slow?  I am 16 weeks out and have stalled at a loss of 46#.  That is less than 3# a week.  I know...I would not have 3# a week without this surgery but I was averaging 4# a week and now I have not seen anything in almost a month.  I am FRUSTRATED and really do feel like I will be a failure at this.

One Week To Go
on April 27, 2008 8:33 pm
Time is actually flying by and in one week I will be getting ready to crawl into my hotel room bed (my surgery is in Bryan and I live in Houston) and I will be getting ready to wake up for my VSG surgery.  My Dr wasn't too strict about a pre-op diet, just eat healthy and get my liver into the best surgery shape possible.  So, I have been trying to eat healthy, stay away from carbs and drink protein shakes for 2 out of my 3 meals.  This next week I will really crack down and do the protein shakes as much as possible and then liquid only the Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Everything is paid for and all test results are at the hospital so....here we go...the final 7 day count down. SWEET!

First Pre-op Nutrition Class was April 10
on April 13, 2008 12:02 pm
I went to my first of two pre-op nutrition classes and WOW...they give you so much organized information it is awesome.  I now know what to have on hand at home when I get back from surgery.  Make sure you all check with your nutritionist about this...it is a BIG help.

I also ordered from www.bariatriceating.com and am looking forward to getting some great protein suppliments.  They have a cool sample pack and some protein bullets...in grape...yummy.

I go to Dr. Mason onTuesday for the final consultation and see if he wants me to lose any more than 5-10 pounds before surgery and then at 3:00 I go to my final nutrition class and learn more about eating and post-op.

The support group at my hospital is meeting on the 20th and invited me eventhough I am pre-op.  They have a specialist coming in that will measure and consult with us about proper walking and running shoes.  How cool is that?

I am SOOOOOOO excited about my surgery.

Under the Month Mark
on April 8, 2008 11:56 am

It is less than a month now until my surgery and I am SOOOOOOOO excited.  I have great friends who will be with me through this journey and all the wonderful people on OH have been a plethora of information. I only hope my experience will help others who are preparing for their surgery .  I plan to be around to talk and share my journey with others as well as assist my surgeon at his seminars by being a living example of how successful this can be.
