Surgeon Testimonial

James Harris, M.D.
I have had a positive experience with Dr Harris and his office staff. The doctor spoke to me alone on my first office visit and once he determined that I was a candidate for surgery I joined him and other patients interested in wls for a class discussion. During class he discussed the different types of surgery and the risk, benefits, pros and cons of each.
They all have a great bedside/office manner and responds to my calls in a timely manner. I have only had one postop appt and I will return in 6 wks for my first fill then go from there.

Another Fill!!
on September 11, 2008 1:24 am
I was called in by my Dr's office on Monday after my ordeal over the weekend. They wanted to see how I recovered and to get me refilled.I was a bit surprised because I wasn't 100 % ready, HOWEVER, I agreed to come in the next day! They apologized for my inconvience but we all learned a valuable lesson!! NO FILLS ON FRIDAYS!!
I went in on Tuesday and 1cc was added without problems.  I have been taking it much slower than before (no solids as of yet) but the liquids and mushies are going down find.....

I went to the ER
on September 6, 2008 7:33 pm
I called the on call doc this morning, I told her that I couldn't keep water down, I have reflux (which I never had) and I'm waking up coughing (choking on saliva) hacking and gaggin!! She tells me to "give it another 24 hrs, sometimes there's swelling after a fill" hell I knew that but this had never happened before!! She also said NPO until this afternoon, then try sippin water.  I repeated everything for the second time and included, Ma'am I have not even urinated at all today! Something needs to be done now. She says give it time.....I sat up for a while then went to bed with my basin, after 3 hrs I get up and call her again and she agreed to meet me at the ER in 2 hrs.  She first asked several questions including,,,do you know what type of needle they used?  I was like okay, she has never done this before. After about 30 mins she arrived and we got the job done!! She actually hit the port the first time! I asked her to remove 1.5 cc (1 cc was added Fri) and there was immediate relief!! I will follow up with my Dr next week!

Another Fill.............
on September 5, 2008 7:01 pm

I was undecided about getting a fill due to having some restriction, but it's been 2 months...I got 1 cc (total of 7 cc) in my 10 cc band.  I sipped the water while in the office and it goes down fine.  I was riding in the car, when all of a sudden  all the water comes back!! I know I should have turned around and went back to the office but 1) I'm a very difficult stick, my port sits "cock-eyed" 2) we're under a hurricane watch (Hannah), and everyone was rushing to get patients in and out  3) I felt like I may have drank too much because I was still sipping vitamin water as well.  Since being home I have tried chicken broth twice without luck.
I'm all jacked up, either way I have to wait until Monday to be seen.............

Back in the Groove!!
on August 22, 2008 11:26 pm
Yeah Baby, I have been back in the gym now for a couple weeks and it feels great!!  I have more energy and starting to feel like I'm on a roll...I still need to pick up the pace but hey it's a start. I went to the gym today and did 35 mins on the elliptical (600 calories burned) and 30 mins on the treadmill on an incline of 6 (300 calories burned).  Now I need to focus on my vitamins and protein.

Obtacles are in the way when you lose focus of your goal....

My Story

I have been overweight since birth weighing 10 lbs 3 oz...I remember from childhood being either the tallest or biggest child in class. I remember being in the 3rd grade and sharing clothes with my sister who was a high school senior (size 10). I wore a size 20 to my 8th grade graduation. Now that's just an idea how it all started...Fast forward....2003 I became serious about losing wt, then at an all time high of 265 lbs......I did Atkin's (after trying numerous other diets) and lost 65 lbs, then a size 14/16. I felt great at 200 lbs and you couldn't tell me I didn't look good.  To make a long story short I soon became pregnat with my first child gained 40 lbs......lost 20 lbs......had a 2nd child 22months later....up to 295 lbs--- had that child 21 months ago ...and today I weigh 295 lbs!!!  I have been considering wls for years but wanted to try it on my own, have kids,.....and then....
On December 10, 2007 I had my first consult with Dr James Harris and attended a support group meeting.  I now have completed all paperwork, psych eval, nutrition counseling and waiting for 2nd appt on 2/5 before info will be submitted to insurance.  I'm leaning more towards the lap band because I'm afraid of not having control over how much I lose.  I know that might sound crazy but as I said before I was pleased at 200 lbs and looked very good.  At that time, I had people telling me I shouldn't lose any more because I was starting to look sick.  I have a very large frame and people think that I weigh at least 50 lbs lighter than I do....yes I'm THICK!!
I'm hoping to gain support from this site plus meet others who have had wls particularly lap banding.....I have decided regardless of the method I choose I'm on the journey to find that more beautiful woman within....
