Surgeon Testimonial

Edward Facundus, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr Facundus is great; his staff treated me at all times professionally thru ALL the questions and concerns I had. He was just as great post-op as he was pre-op!

The only negative was I had to re-fax a couple of labs to the office but I was on top of it and kept copies just in case.

Aftercare is scheduled when surgery is scheduled. The emphasis on aftercare is extreme - he understands that aftercare is critical to success post-op.

Overall I would rate him excellent

Howdy, y'all!

I am a native Texan and Houstonian - I've recently moved back from Huntsville, AL to Galveston.  I am 3 months out from a Lap RNY.  My BMI was in the 60's at it's highest and at 3 months out it's in the mid-high 40's.

I took a long time to get here - I was refused surgery by Aetna while in Houston a couple of years ago - the company I work for excluded it from our coverage.  Then I moved to Alabama and it was approved by BC/BS of Alabama.

Keep walking, walking, walking and chewing, chewing, chewing and sipping, sipping sipping!!

Can't believe the changes!!!
on April 18, 2008 2:24 pm
I cannot believe all of the changes in my life the last 18 or so months.

1.  I have an online support system to surpass none!  The Texas Message Board rocks!  My online family is my chosen family and very special to me - {{HUGS}} to all of the TMB!

2.  I am in a solid size 10 - not where I want to be but close.  I want to be in a solid 8 but my body seems to be very, very comfortable in a 10.  I'm learning to go with the flow on this one.

3.  I can sit in any chair without fear of breaking it.

4.  I fit in furniture that I didn't used to fit into before and can even double up if I have to!  How cool is that!!

5.  I can wrap MOST bath towels all the way around me and tuck them in....been waiting a long time for that one.

6.  I can sit in the middle airplane seat and be comfortable.

7.  I can buckle an airplane seat belt and have plenty left over.

8.  My scale is no longer the enemy; it's a friend that tells me the unvarnished truth and I have learned to love my scale.

9.  I am in smaller sizes than both of my kids!!

10.  After being away from Houston for a year, I am running into people that do not recognize me - that has to be the biggest drug free / alcohol free high ever!!!!

Almost a year ago.........
on September 16, 2007 7:58 am
Almost one year ago, I was 270+ pounds........today I am 100 pounds lighter.......I can -
*  cross my legs
*  wear size 12 jeans
*  feel bones I forgot I had
*  count so many new friends from OH I don't have enough fingrs and toes to count them all
*  shop in "normal" size stores
*  wear my kids clothes
*  eat normal size meals and feel FULL
*  sit in any chair and not be afraid of breaking it
*  buckle my seat belt on an airplane with no extender
*  sit in that airplane seat with room to spare
*  maintain my blood pressure without meds
*  sleep with out a cpap machine
*  walk for miles without getting out of breath
*  clean the whole house without running out of steam
*  pay it forward by telling my story to whoever will listen
*  know that I will live longer because of the affirmative decision I made over a year ago to change my life for the better!!!

I could not have done all of these things without the help of all of my super support system on OH - the TMB and OFF boards are my lifeline and I cherish all the friendships that have developed this past year here.

9 months out and still losing
on June 25, 2007 9:42 pm
Haven't posted in awhile but I thought I'd catch up real quick.

My 9 month surgi-versary will be June 27 - since surgery I've lost 94 pounds and from my highest ever I've lost 146 - from a size 24/26 to a 14/16 and the 14's are a little on the baggy side!

On June 18 I had a partial knee replacement done of my right knee - this was part of my motivation to have WLS - to get my knee fixed so I didn't have constant pain around the clock.  I'm getting around the house alot better than I thought I would and I start my PT tomorrow.

I have made some life long friends on the OH Texas Message Board and all because of WLS......I am so thankful that my journey has taken me on this path.

6 months and counting!!
on March 28, 2007 6:49 pm
I am 6 months out on March 27th and I am so grateful that I got approved and had this surgery!!  I am down 73# since surgery and that puts me at 125# lighter than my highest ever weight!!

I have had a relatively easy time - some vomitting from food that didn't agree with the pouch or I ate too fast or I didn't chew enough but that hasn't happened in several weeks [knock on wood!!]

I am down to a size 16 from 24/26 - wearing size medium shorts and large t-shirts......if I never lost another pound and maintained right here I'd be happy......not content but ok.

I've also lost 4 meds.....hoping to ditch the cpap soon.......I can walk alot longer without ever getting out of breath...life is just GOOD  ;-)

5 months out and feeling great!
on February 28, 2007 8:32 am
Yesterday was my 5 month - post-op anniversary - my scale says I am 70# down - from my highest ever I am 120# down!!

The best part of the 5 month anniversary is that I am now comfortably into size 16 blue jeans!!!  AND if I say so myself, they look and feel great!!

What a ride!!!
