Update 5 months out
on August 9, 2008 1:16 am
OK so I went to the doctors yesterday to get checked out cuz i havent been there since June 21st. and i have lost 24 LBS since June 21st making my grand total 58 LBS in 5 months. I am happy about it but I also had to get all the fluid out of my band to have it reset because I havent been able to eat without getting sick since June. So he took out all 7 cc's that I had in it and is going to refill it on the 14th if august. It is only a week but I am so afraid that I will gain weight!

So I have been doing ok. A little discouraged but ok I guess. I have lost 20 lbs to date but I want more . I have yet to get a fill they keep postponing it and I have no clue why. But I am supposed to go back in 2 weeks to get my first fill and I can't wait.

Lap Band Complication :(
on March 29, 2008 10:13 am
Ok so I noticed on Tuesday that my main incision was a bit sore and little bit red but I thought maybe my shirt or bra just irritated it a little. Then Wednesday morning i noticed it was oozing, then when i pushed around it it just like exploded with ooze. Which is just disgusting, so I called my surgeon and he told me to come in on Thursday. It turns out that I am doing something called "spitting the sutures" which means my body had a negative reaction to the glue stuff they put in to close the incision and my body is pushing it out, therefore causing my incision to open a bit and maybe become infected. So now I am on antibiotics to prevent an infection and I have to dress my incision with saline and gauze twice a day. I hate it, it hurts so bad. It is so discouraging because I can’t get a fill until it is all cleared up, and I already had an appointment for my first fill and now I can’t get it because if I did have an infection and they filled the band it would spread the infection to the band and they would have to pull the whole damn thing out! I am so sad about it.  What else is going to go wrong with this?

So I had my surgery last Tuesday March 4th. Since then I have been good. I am still sore but not too bad. I am still ok with my soup diet but cant wait until tomorrow, I can finally have yogurt! According to my home scale I have lost 11 LBS already but I have an appoint with Dr. Schwartz on Friday so we will see then!

My Story

Hola Everyone!
Well I am 21 Years old, and I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. I have tried every diet, pill, and magic solution out there and as you can see it hasn't helped. The number on the scale just kept climbing and climbing. I realized I needed help when I couldn't do the simplest things without feeling like I was going to die. Every muscle in my body began to hurt constantly and I began having chest pains all day long. My mom had Gastric Bypass 3 years ago and has been wonderful ever since so when I began looking into weight loss surgery she has been my biggest support. I decided against Gastric Bypass and have been very focused on getting the Lap Band, it just seems right for me. I picked a surgeon and have met with him and things seem very postive. I have an appointment with my PCP on November 21st to get the ball rolling with her and then it goes to my insurance, hopefully they approve me but even if they don't I am going to find a way to get this no matter what. I want to be healthy.
