Past two years
on December 21, 2010 11:49 am
The past two years since I had the sleeve, have been very challenging for me.  The lowest weight I attained was 282.  Not happy with that.  Unsure as to what was going on, etc.  Was being very careful of what I ate and was walking daily.  It seemed that I could eat way more than I thought I should have been able to.  My doctor referred me to a surgeon who did the DS as he did not do that part of the surgery, only the sleeve.  I started last January with the initial introductory class, followed by dietician meetings, doctors, etc.  In the middle of October I was approved by insurance for the DS.  They did the surgery on December 6, 2010.  I am now two weeks out.  My surgery was open due to all the scar tissue and especially from my previous lap band and gall bladder surgery.  I am really doing good.  Now I really feel the restriction and am losing the weight.  I look forward to see where this journey takes me.

Two weeks post op
on October 30, 2008 6:44 am
I am two weeks out from my surgery.  I had the sleeve instead of the RNY.  There was too much scar tissue when they removed my lap band.  I am doing super!  I am out walking everyday with my dog.  I like how I feel.  This is the best thing I could have done.

Revision surgery
on October 6, 2008 1:42 pm
I am scheduled for revision surgery on October 15, 2008.  I am scared because it has to be open rather than laproscopic to remove my lap band.  I am also very anxious to have this done so I can start a new journey, a journey I am committed to and know will be fine for me.  I will be having the RNY because insurance will not cover the sleeve, which is what the doctor preferred.  I am ready to start my new life journey!

Looking at a revision
on May 6, 2008 1:13 pm
Well, I have run into bad luck.  I am getting no where fast and in fact gaining.  Can't seem to find that "Sweet spot" with the band.  Either too tight or too loose.  Now I have talked with my doctor about other possibilities. He was considering the sleeve. But, it doesn't appear my insurance will cover. Will have to wait and see for sure and then make a decision as to what to do.

My Story

I have been overweight all my life as far back as I can remember.  I finally decided in July of 2005 that I wanted to live long enough to see my daughter get married, etc. and I have a lot of nieces and nephews that are very important to me.  I love kids!  That is why I am a librarian!  So when I went in for my yearly exam, I told the nurse practioner I wanted to do two things:  quit smoking and lose the weight.  She was so happy to hear I was finally ready.  She set me up with the doctor at our clinic who does FREE stop smoking sessions with you.  I quit on 7-17-05 and am still smoke free today.  I attended my informational meeting on the lap band the end of August, got my insurance approval the 2nd week of Sept and had surgery on 10-4-05.  I started out slow.  My brain didn't get it!  But then things started to work.  I had my first fill the first week of December and another one in January.  In March things were not good, I had gained!  The doctor got mad and filled me to 2.8cc in a 4cc band.  I was doing pretty good and then September things went bad again.  I had shoulder surgery and everything that could go wrong did.  I am just about mended know and getting back into the grove of things.  I went back to the dr. last week and he put in an additional .2ccs so now I have 3ccs.  Pretty touch in the mornings and I really have to go slow, but otherwise doing okay. Lost 2 lbs in the first week!  I am just over 50 away from my goal.
