Surgeon Testimonial

Richard DiCicco, M.D.
I had gone to Dr. Grossbards seminar as well as Dr. DiCicco's seminar and love them both. Dr. DiCicco is very nice, down to business and extremely busy. I felt confident that he takes his job very seriously and does not leave room for error. The one bad thing is he is only at his Tampa office on Mondays and his other office is in Zephyrhills which is quite a drive for me. I wish he had more days in the Tampa office but I will deal with it.rnrnEveryone in his office has been wonderful. Barbara put up with me and all my questions before hand and Erica puts up with all my questions now. The girls that answer the phones are always so pleasant.

Work is Killing Me
on May 28, 2008 6:11 pm
Ugh, I am going crazy at work trying to make all my deadlines. We have 2 tradeshows back to back and I have so much to do I am freaking out.  I have 2 days to get a completely redesigned catalog to our printer and I am nowhere near done!!

Anyway I have not been able to get on much in the last few days.  Things are going great in the world of Lapband. I am down 28 pounds, I am officially fitting into all my size 14's and even some 12's!!!

I had my first PB/Slime situation, it was horrible! I don't want to do that ever again.  I took a bite of chicken and without even thinking barely chewed and swallowed.  By the time I reaized what I had done it was too late.  It felt like someone stuck a dagger in my chest.  I started to feel like I wanted to throw up and started salivating like mad. I started spitting it out and walking around trying to get it to move. I took a drink which was a big mistake.  I also learned not to bend over when it happens, that hurt like hell!
Eventually after about 3 minutes (which seemed like 30) I threw up. Not the normal throwing up but more like a short Blurp and a the chicken and some yucky stuff came up, with quite a bit of force I might add.

I hurt a bit afterwards but within a few minutes I was fine and sipping some water.

LESSON LEARNED! I hope I never do that again!!!!

Gotta get back to work...I better get a bonus this year.....

Re-Training In Progress
on May 22, 2008 7:32 am
Wow, eating solid foods after the fill is very different.  It is so strange to me to get full on so little food.  I have a very hard time accepting it for some reason. Last night for dinner I had Chicken Nam Sod (a Thai dish that is basically lettuce, tomato, cucumber topped with crumbled ground chicken and peanuts with fish sauce, lime juice, strips of fresh ginger and some crushed pepper-it is one of my favorites) anyway I had that and an eggroll for me.  I could only eat most of the chicken, ginger and peanuts and maybe 2 bites of lettuce and less than half of an eggroll and I was full. Before surgery I would have eaten the entire Nam Sod salad, a whole eggroll and probably half of an order of Pad Thai noodles.

Same thing happend at lunch yesterday. I went to Quiznos and ordered a catalina chicken sammie and a bowl of chili. It looked so small to me, those sammies are smaller than a taco.  I ate the guts of the sammie and a few bites of the bread and about half of the chili and I was stuffed. It lasted all day too, I was full all day until about 7:00.  It just seems so strange!....wonderful but strange.

I am having a little more trouble getting my water in so I have to step that up a bit and it is definately tighter in the morning than the evening.  Drinking feels really wierd, you feel like you swallow a lot of air now

Also the good news is according to my scale I am down 2 more pounds putting me at 27 pounds lost!! Yipeeeeeee!

I will have to celebrate 30 pounds with something for myself. I think I might do a drastic hair change.

Also I only have 55 more minutes left to make my 1000 minutes of exercise goal for the month of May. I am sure I will go well over that! I am so proud of myself!

My Fill Is Weaker Than I thought
on May 20, 2008 4:22 pm
Well I don't feel much restriction today. In the morning it seems to be tight as it did take me about 15 mintues to get my pills down. But by the afternoon I want to eat everything in sight. I was bad today and did full liquids for lunch instead of waiting one more day. I definately don't think this is going to do much but at least it is a start.

Don't get me wrong I do feel a bit different. When I drink if I go to fast or take too big of gulps it gurgles a lot and I burp and air comes up a lot. I know liquids sort of go right through you so I wonder if I will feel restriction when I eat soft and solids.  Either way I go back on the 23rd of next month for my next fill so I am not going to sweat it too much.

I have heard some people say it can take 2 weeks for the fill to "take" and you to feel the restriction and a few people have told me my doc did a rather aggresive fill for my first one.

Also today I had a NSV moment. I have this beautiful midnight bluish purple blouse I just love. I bought it a long time ago and have only worn it once. When I started all this I could barely get it on it was so tight on the arms and there was no way the buttons and button holes were in sight of each other.  Today I tried it on and I was able to button it, it is still way too tight to wear but the fact is just a few more pounds and I can wear it again!!!  I can't wait, for some reason I like it so much, it is very sleek and classy. Once I fit in it I will take a pic.Hearty bloom:9627

Hope everyone is doing wonderful!

I got My First Fill Today
on May 19, 2008 10:57 am
This morning I went in for my first fill.  We went over what all has been going on and he was extremely pleased with my progress.  I am down 25 pounds officially!!!  I had to lay down and he swabbed me with some numbing/antibacterial stuff then came the ouchie! he pushed around for a bit to find the right spot then stuck me and I won't lie it sort of hurt.  then he had to move the needle around a bit to find the center.  He didn't use a needle though he used a sort of needle on the end of a tube. Sort of like an IV. He said it just makes it much easier and comfortable for me to sit up and drink water without a needle hanging out of me.

He took out anything that was in the band which was very little, he said they prime the band during surgery but it is not enough for restriction, it usually just fills the tube from the port.

He then put in 3.4cc's in and had me drink water as fast as I could until I felt like it was stuck in my throat. He said I would know the feeling when it happend and boy did I!!! I barely got half of the 8oz bottle of water down and I thought I was going to hurl. I was salavating like I was going to puke.  He had me sit for a bit to see how well it went down and it didn't feel like it was getting much better. He took out just a bit and it felt much better. We decided we didn't want to make it too tight so we left that ittle bit out and I have 3.2cc's in a 10cc band.

I am on clear liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 2 days then regular foods slowly.  I am so excited, I do feel restriction but who knows what will happen when the swelling goes down.  I have had water, some crystal light tea and about 4oz of broth all day.

I am sure by tomorrow I will be starving!!  Oh well I am excited to really get the show on the road and get some restriction.  I have another fill scheduled for June 23rd.

Gotta Love Friday's
on May 16, 2008 8:09 am
Well things are going peachy, I have been exercising and loving it for the first time in my life. I get upset if I don't get in at least 30 to 60 minutes.  The scale seemed to move again a bit and according to my scale I am down 25 pounds now. If that is the case then I have finaly made it out of the 180's!!!! I get my first fill on Monday so I am sure I will weigh in and we can see what that scale says, it always seems to be about 1 pound off but I will take any loss I can get!  Plus I do it home without any clothes on so when I go to the doc I make sure I wear light clothes and flip-flops

I am feeling good today, mood is up, carnitas are cooking away in the slow cooker all day, work is going good, I am down a few pounds and it is FRIDAY!!!!

Tomorrow we are going to Epcot with the Mother inlaw in toe (ugh) but at least I can get lots of exercise. Sunday will be cleaning, lawn work and scrubbing floors. Whoopieeee
