Surgeon Testimonial

Audrey Bolanowski
What was your first impression of her?
She takes what she does very seriously

How did your impression change over time?
It didn't, she is very supportive of her patients and wants to see them succeed and I think that I am lucky to have a doctor like that.

How would you describe his/her office staff?
Everyone is so nice.

What should future patients know about
her?
Don't be afraid to ask questions, she's there to help and she will tell you the truth without sugar coating it.

How much does she emphasize aftercare?
Very much. There is an awesome nutritional staff and patient support, USE THEM!

Does she have a structured aftercare program?
Yes!!

How did she address the risks of surgery?
Very clear, again she tells it like it is.

How would you rate her overall?
Great, no problem with the office either.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?
Both! I couldn't ask for a better doctor! She greated me everytime I saw her with a smile and really interested in what I had to say. She took excellent care of me and made sure I was well taken care of in the hospital.

Been a while!
on February 2, 2011 7:18 am
So it's been forever since I have posted a blog so I'm due. I hope everyone has been having a good weight loss journey, as for me I am doing well. I am 17 pounds for a normal BMI and 23 pounds away from my personal goal. I'm not gonna lie, these last few pounds are creeping off. I am working out but I know I could be consuming better things in my body. I have been living my life and it feels wonderful. I was looking at my pictures this morning and can't believe what I used to look like. I can't believe that I thought I looked perfectly fine, wow I really did just think I was a little over weight but nothing to bad. Well I feel so much better. Other then the saggy belly I am pretty comfortable in my own skin. I am down to a size 10 pants, medium to small shirt and size 8 shoes, my ring finger is now a size 7 and I am need of a resizing of my wedding band. Even with the quirks of my new digestion system I know I made the right choice for me and I will never regret having this surgery. On another note I went in for an ultrasound because my periods are out of control and they found a cyst on my ovary and fibroids in my uterus. I have been placed on the birth control patch and will go back for follow up in 2 months. Well until I get around to another post, take care and remember it's a marathon not a sprint!!!

Banded Wendy is amazing! I love when she talks about removing the "I only" statements. So important for us to do. So I am down to 171 now. I can't believe it! I now weigh less then my husband...by 2 pounds but who cares!!! I fit comfortably into a size 14 and that is awesome! I made my first purchase of size 9-10 pants that I hope to get into with in the next two months. Now lets talk hair loss...the word of the day...DRANO. Holy crap when will it stop? I have found a protein shake that I can tolerate and am more consious of my protein intake. I really need to hit the weights so I really need motivation for that...I guess going bald is a good place to start for motivation

Post op 13 weeks!
on August 19, 2010 8:02 am
Hey all! I know it's been a while since I have posted a blog but poop happens. I have been busy with life! I went in for my 3 month post op appointment and since my doc is now deployed I have a new doc. He is nice but once again does things a little differently. Dr. B instructed me to get my protein from food since I can't seem to find a protein drink that I like but Dr. Mann says I need to keep trying because I need that extra protein and he said to just drink it in place of liquids where Dr. B. says to replace a meal with it...uhg but he said that I am doing well and that his goal for me would be 140# I set a goal for myself lower then that so we will have to see what I look like when I get to that weight because lord knows I don't want to be  sickly looking...but holy crap I haven't weighed 140 since 199?? lol. I am now confortably in a size 16 and some 16's are even loose on me. I will soon have to purchase a new chef's jacket and pants for school. I can cross my legs with no problem and yesterday I hopped on my bike and took a 2 mile ride with no problem and could have really kept going if it weren't for the fact I had to get ready to go to school. I got a hair cut and even though my hair is falling out a bit I have so much and my stylist cut it to where it still looks nice and thick.  Well take care everyone and hope ya'll are doing well!!!

Week 8 Post op
on July 21, 2010 6:14 am
So I am now 8 weeks post op and can't believe it! I waited for so long to get my surgery and now it feels like it has been forever since it was done. I am back to no restriction at the gym and lemme tell you I went twice on Monday! I worked out in the morning incorporating weights back into my routine and in the afternoon I decided to take the latin dance class since I love zumba so much. I had a blast and yes I still feel sore today. NSV include fitting into a XL dress, that wasn't made of stretchy material, and just feeling over all better about myself. I still can't see the pounds lost when I look in the mirror but when I put on clothes they are loose so that tells me I am shedding my fat suit. I am thankful for my supportive family and especially my husband who is with me on this journey 100% and I am also so thankful to have the most supportive WLS friends ever. Hope everyone has such a wonderful week!

My Story

I am a 33 y/o wife and mother of two children.  I have PCOS and am pre-diabetic. I am 5'3" and my heaviest weight was 231.  I originally chose the Lapband procedure because it seems to me to be less invasive then the RNY procedure. After many weeks doing research talking to people and being here on this site I have decided to do RNY instead.  It really is a personal choice that you have to make for yourself and there is some serious soul searching that goes along with WLS.  Although I have had my struggles with weight loss in the past I was not "obese" until after my second pregnancy.  It was rough on my body and I just never recovered.  I am hoping to regain a little bit of the woman I used to be cause that girl was freakin amazin! I grew up in TX (yeehaw) I was in the Navy for 4 years and am now married to an amazing man and I am also a culinary student (I know, my obsession with food runs deep).  My husband and I have two wonderful children that give me a reason to be the best me I can be.  My husband is still in the Navy and I couldn't be more proud of him.  I am a nurturing person but I have realized in the past few years that when I am not true to myself that everyone around me suffers for it, because of that I am now ready to take care of me so I can better take care of the people around me.  I am ready for this journey and ready to reclaim "me" again!
