Surgeon Testimonial

Hugh Houston, M.D.
What can I say that has not already been said about this wonderful,
caring, compassionate man? That I have the utmost confidence in him
and his staff? That for the first time I can remember in a long time
a doctor treated me with respect, care and concern, and didn't just
lay blame, shame, and guilt for the fact that I was obese? That after
meeting and talking to him I felt there might be hope and help for my
health and disease? Yes, I can honestly say all of these things and
I felt like he really cared about me and my problem and it wasn't
just his job. I didn't get the feeling that I was just another
patient to rush in and out of his office. He spoke to me at length
and answered all my questions and even alleviated my very protective
mother's concerns.

The gastric bypass surgery Dr. Houston performed on me has given me
my life back. Prior to surgery, I went to work, church, and shopped
(with great difficulty) for just what I had to. My life was an
existence but not an enjoyment. I am so thankful that Dr. Houston
agreed to work with me and my insurance company to give me this
second chance at life. His support, encouragement, and sometimes even
a little scolding are what have helped to make my surgery a success.
I knew when I heard him at the seminar that his honest, tell it like
it is manner was what I wanted in a surgeon. But he has a soft side
too and if I've needed a little hand holding along the way he has
done that also.

So, thank you Dr. Houston for my new life. I am so glad you decided
to use your surgeon's skills to help those of us who have fought the
battle with obesity without much success and help or support from the
medical community. Thank you for seeing me as a human being with a
disease and not just a self-indulgent fat person. I hope I can live
up to your expectations and promise to do my best to make the most of
this wonderful, valuable tool you have given me.
