Getting Ready for Step No. 1!
posted on 5/10/12 8:40 am
I'm so excited!!

Tomorrow will be my first appointment in a series of many to get this surgery approved! I am going to the Sleep Disorders of Virginia specialists for my initial consultation, and to schedule my sleep study. I feel empowered...we're still moving forward!

I'm praising God that I'm moving forward even in the midst of adversity. My grandmother is back in the hospital. She has degenerative arthritis and has had cervical spinal disc fusion. She has been in immense pain and has been immobile due to complications with her back.

Last night, I had the chance to take care of her while she was in the hospital. It did 2 things for me. 1) It helped me realize why I'm going through these steps to have WLS. I need to be around, healthy, and active to take care of my aging family members. My grandmother is the only grandparent that I have left, and she is yet holding on! But as she gets older I'm sure that her health and vitality is going to require more energy from all of my family members, including myself. 2) It reinforced my determination to finish nursing school. I am a certified pharmacy technician now, and I have been taking pre-requisite classes to get into a Associate's Degree RN program at a local community college. I was beginning to get weary. I work full-time, go to school full-time, and then also have high levels of responsibility at home (my fiance is an epileptic with poorly managed seizures and my grandmother has had a recent decline in her ability to take care of herself, physically). There have been MANY nights I have cried out, God, please take some of this stress from me!

But now I know what he's doing it. He's just preparing me to handle these next few years. I think I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnell. Then again, I've always been a 'glass-half-full' kind of gal. :)
