My name is Mimi in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I decided to start the process for RNY Surgery the latter part of April 2008. I've completed all my homework assignments given by my Wellness Center and I am awaiting insurance approval.

2 Weeks Post-Op

Well it's been two weeks since I had my RNY Surgery, and I'm really doing well.  Although I'm really getting tired of drinking those protein shakes, I'm still hanging in there.  I haven't been on a scale to see if I've lost any weight, but I can look at my face and tell that it seems to be smaller.

Two weeks before surgery my weight was 302, and the day of surgery I was at 287.  That's was an accomplishment.

My Story

I’ve struggled with my weight for the majority of my life.  As a child I was placed on diets and monitored by a dietician.

As a teenager my weight was a big issue.  All of my peers were smaller than I.  So there again I tried another diet that did not work.  Around the age of Fifteen, I began meeting with another dietician which was a struggle.  She wasn’t the most encouraging person I’ve met.   I would lose a few pounds but, after awhile I’d gain them all back and some.  The only time I can say that I lost weight without any struggle, was during my three pregnancies.  After each delivery I was actually smaller than I was before I became pregnant.

About four an half years ago I began workout, I stopped eating starches or anything white.  I lose 34 pounds over a two year period.  I went from a size 28 to 20, a great accomplishment for the first time since I began this battle with the weight.  After a while the exercising, watching what I ate, and the calorie counting didn’t seem to be working anymore, and the pounds stopped coming off.  Hard work with no results can be very discouraging.  For the pass year an a half, I’ve been going through this yo yo effect, I’ve regained 25 pounds of what I initially loss.

I’ve chosen the Gastric Weight Loss Surgery

1.  For first time in Twenty years, I have decided to do something solely for myself.  It's not about anyone else it's about me!!
2.
For my Health, to lower the chances of having Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Heart Disease.
3.
For my Family, I have a wonderful husband and four beautiful children 20, 18, 14, & 14 and I want to be around for them and their future families.  I’m afraid if I don’t get this weight problem under control, I’ll either be too heavy to do anything, too sick with illnesses, or not here at all.

 4.   Because I love me, and I would like to be a better me.
