Just like most people on this site, I have tried it all to lose weight! At this point in my life, however, I am more concerned about my health and future.

I started the 6-7 month medically supervised preliminary a year ago, got to month five and quit. A year later, I suddenly realized that if I had not "chickened out" that I could be well on my way to being at goal. Yet, here I was having to start completely over. THIS time, I am beginning month seven as required by my insurance company.

THIS time I will not back down. I have my first appointment with Dr. Lord on October 7, 2010. Wish me luck!!

Plateau broken!
on June 10, 2011 7:54 pm
I was so stuck. Ironically, I decided to get myself back to a monthly seminar and the topic was supposed to be plastic surgery. But the surgeon had to cancel and so the topic was changed to "Hitting a Plateau." How's that for the Universe speaking to me?

Got a fill this week; broke my plateau and starting to be excited again. Also met a new lapband friend at the seminar to share with via email and phone chats. Again, thanks Universe for whopping me in the head!

24 pounds gone in 4 months
on May 28, 2011 7:04 am
I haven't been very good at posting on my blog. Part of the reason has been that reading some of the comments and blogs that are so negative have not been very encouraging for me!

I know that I am SLOWLY getting in better health and shape. I knew going into lapband that it would not show results as quickly as bypass surgery. However, I do have my moments of frustration at how slow it has been for me. Yet, unlike diets, I have not gained weight!! This is a way of life, and I am slowly and surely beginning to adjust to that fact.

Giving up 24 pounds and 15 inches in four months is really a very good thing. I have to keep writing that to make myself believe it!!

Can't figure out how to post my weight updates on my health tracker...any help will be appreciated.

Tomorrow is the BIG day!
on February 1, 2011 6:20 pm
I made it through the three days of liquids for pre-op! It is about bedtime on the eve of my surgery. I'm not nervous. I'm not scared. It feels good to know that I HAVE MADE A DECISION. Five very important words!!!

My Story

I was a thin child, thin teenager and thin young adult. I was a cheerleader in junior high and high school. Riding a bike, playing sports or doing anything outside were passions of mine. Water skiing used to be a favorite pasttime.

My first marriage ended after a few years and I found myself putting on weight. Eating was comforting and yet frustrating at the same time. I began a yo-yo diet pattern that has plagued me ever since.

I lost fifty pounds, remarried and was very happy and very thin. I taught Physical Ed. for about eleven years, took up long distance running and even taught an aerobics class. Then life hit me in the middle again.....literally. With my second divorce, I immediately started to eat myself into numbness.

If I had every dollar that I have spent on diets, exercise classes, gym memberships, personal trainers, and therapy, I would be quite well off financially. Instead, I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life.  Going from 145 to 240 is almost surreal to me until I see myself in a picture.

I now have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and type II diabetes.
