Surgeon Testimonial

Marie Carter, M.D.
Dr. Carter is the most personable surgeon I've ever met. She is very friendly and knowledgable. Don't be afraid to ask her questions, she knows the answers. I had a great experience and my surgery went very well. I had to get a charge nurse on one shift at Edmond Hospital because my nurse was from a staffing service and he just disappeared when my IV blew. The hospital and the charge nurse were very concerned about the issue and took great care of me. I would recommend Dr. Carter to anyone considering RNY in the OKC area.

4 years Post Op and Pregnant with Twins
on January 22, 2007 2:47 pm
01/22/07

Well we found out on Jan 2nd that we are pregnant.  Last Thursday came an even bigger shock.  It's fraternal twins; one boy and one girl.  We have so much to do in the next 5 months.  Our due date is July 4th, 2007, but the OB warned that twins always come early so we are thinking mid June.

We have two other children: Kaitlyn will be 9 in April and Jordan will be 7 on Friday.  So now we will have 2 girls and 2 boys.  I guess the good thing is we kept the balance.

I'm in for another rollercoaster ride on my journey.

Hugs to you all from your Okie Friend

I just thought I'd copy and paste some quotes from my old profile to my blog page.  Seems so wrong to not see at least some of the journey that got me here.....

Well, I guess it's been a while since I updated my profile. I am back to work in the insurance industry. But, still very active as a support group moderator in Edmond, OK. I also provide proteins and vitamist at discounted prices to our members and friends. I tried to make that my primary business, but there just wasn't enough profit/interest to make that work. I am very happy with the new company that I choose to go to work for- NASE - The National Associate for the Self Employed. I can make a difference every day. I am working to get our Insurance provider, Mega Life to offer coverage to WLS patients after a successful waiting period. I am optomistic that will be a step in the right direction for other ndividual health insurance carriers to do the same. I am maintaining my weight within 10 pounds of goal. Sometimes it is a struggle as I am nearing the 3 year post-op date.

My kids are doing great and next month we are being featured in an article in Parent's Magazine. The article is on parents who made major life changes to become healthier for their children. I am proud that my story was choosen to be included. My local hospital nominated me for the article and I guess the rest is history.

Hugs to you today from your Okie Friend,

Sherry

Well what can I say, I am happy and healthy. I am starting a plateau breaker group with the help of the National Director of IDS, Kevin Montalto. Myself and 10 other OH members are going to test out a formula over the next 4 weeks to see if we can break a long term plateau. I am very excited about the prospect of having a formula to suggest to people. I am currently at 160 pounds and below my own personal goal, but have been there since December. I know that my body could loose at least 15 more pounds and still be healthy. I am anxious to see if this will work for myself and the other 10 that volunteered to test it with me. I'll post more soon on our progress.

As for my personal life, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My husband and I have reconciled and have gone through counseling. My family is back to normal and that feels good. It actually feels better than it has for a very long time because I feel that I can actually trust my husband again. That is a long way from where I was in October.

Wow, what a ride!!!

My name is Sherry I. Gates High. I am 33 years old and the mother of two beautiful children; my daughter,Kaitlyn 6; and my son, Jordan 4. I am over 18 months post-op now and really have the hang of things as far as caring for my body, counting my protein, drinking my water, and taking my vitamins. However, I still can't seem to get the mental side to come back to any semblance of normal. I found out a few weeks ago that my husband had been having an affair with my Brother's wife since 11/19/01!!! Yes, that's almost 3 years. I have suspected it, but they always made me feel like I was just making things up because I was depressed. I guess I should have listened to my gut instinct 3 years ago, but then I didn't have the self esteem at 276 pounds that I have at 165. So, I guess that God allows us to learn things at the right time in our lifes to be able to deal with them. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I am still very active in our live support group and with the Bariatric institute of Oklahoma. It is my heartfelt desire to give back to others in this journey in any way that I can. So, if you have read this profile and think I can help you in any way, please email me. This journey is so much more rewarding when walked together with friends.

Almost 4 years Post-op and Pregnant with Twins
on January 22, 2007 1:54 pm

Soooooo much to do over the next 5 months.

We started suspecting we might be pregnant in late December and had it confirmed on 01/02.  What a way to start a new year.  We were quite surprised since our other kiddos are almost 7 & 9.  However, we would never give such a wonderful gift from God anything but the go ahead!!  We had just gotten used to the idea of having a baby when we went for the ultrasound at the Perinatalogist last Thursday.   My daughter asked the tech if the baby was a boy or a girl.  She replied, "you mean babies?".  All I could do was to laugh.......
We did find out that it is one of each.  Fraternal twins.

I guess I'm in for another rollercoaster ride....

Hugs to you all from your Okie Friend
