Surgeon Testimonial

John W. Baker M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Baker is that he truly cares about obesity as an epidemic and helping obese individuals. That impression has stayed with me both times I have met him. His staff is very friendly in person. On the phone, they seem a little eager to get OFF the phone. (I understand that, they're busy.) I don't have anything that I dislike about him so far. Future patients should know that he is no-nonsense, direct and honest. (He has beautiful blue eyes too that almost hypnotize you if you look into them while he's talking to you. It's weird - I'm not kidding.) He really puts an emphasis on aftercare, even going so far as to say that he doesn't want you for a patient if you aren't going to do the aftercare. He does have a structured aftercare program that is really supportive. He is blunt about the risks of surgery in his seminars and in all the paperwork you have to sign. I would rate him a 10 out of 10. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great.

126.2 lbs & remodeling
on August 23, 2009 5:23 pm

My 2 year surgery anniversary date was the 20th.  I weighed in today at 126.2 lbs.  My food & fluid journal numbers are looking great - so all is good.

I am trying to finish this remodel.

Lowes put my carpet in a week or so ago.  It is coming apart.  I have called Lowes and they are waiting for "the Mill" to tell them whether or not they will reimburse Lowes to replace it or not.  From what I have heard so far from the man that installed it AND the guy I spoke to AT Lowes, Lowes is supposed to be very good about replacing flooring the customer isn't happy with.  And at this point, they KNOW that I am NOT happy.  So hopefully I'll know about that sometime this week.  The WORST thing that can happen is they refuse to do anything.  Then I'll have to fight them (probably to no avail, they are the big company and I'm just the little guy) - but I couldn't take it without a fight.  I paid for top of the line berber carpeting and there are loops coming up already (since about the 3rd day we had it down) in spots.  And we did NOT snag it and make it happen - they just started coming up.  The backing is bad.  What I HOPE happens is that they agree to replace it ALL (I really don't care who pays - "the Mill" or Lowes - as long as it's not me).  The pain is going to be moving all the furniture again.  That will suck regardless.

I went through my clothes this morning and bagged up some stuff that is either too little, too big or just fits wrong/off.  I have so many clothes, there is no need to keep ANYTHING that doesn't fit perfectly.  So I bagged it all up to take to the next support group.  I already had a couple of things bagged up to take to support group that I missed this month BECAUSE of the carpet (that turned out to be defective) getting installed.  I've got some vanilla protein powder and some sugar free syrup I'm taking to get rid of too.  Surely somebody will want it.  If they don't, I'll take the nonfood items to Abilities Unlimited and toss the protein powder and syrup.  I hate throwing perfectly good stuff away.  So I hope someone wants it.

I got a new computer desk.  It's very simple, very sleek and fabulous if I do say so myself.

School has started.  I'm glad.  I feel better and more free with my days.  They will still be spent at work of course, but not having to worry about my daughter during the day helps immensely with concentration.  So I'm sure my work PRODUCT will improve.

Finishing this remodel is extremely stressful.  But life is good.

127.4 lbs (maintaining @ around 2 yrs out) w/...

So I'm still alive and maintaining... still remodeling my house (taking a breather from painting as I type this).

We were at the new Sams in HS yesterday and they were doing free bone density scans.  (Always try to catch these if you can - especially you ladies out there!  The tests at the doctor's office are around $300 and most insurance companies will not pay for them.  It's painless and takes literally seconds to do.)

Well, anything over .500 is good - mine was .783!!!  So I have "fantastic bones" according to the doctor doing the scans!  Woo hoo!
