I wish I had started to blog from the beginning, but better late than never.

I had the  Realize Band put on this past Tuesday.  The hospital experience wasn't nearly as bad as I thought.  Everyone was very nice and I felt well taken care of.  Even though everyone was very nice, I was still glad to go home that afternoon.

I started on clear liquids that evening.  A little chicken broth and apple juice.  I also had some jell-o which really felt good on my throat which was still sore from intubation.  I'm limited in my choices of liquids since I'm allergic to most artificial sweeteners.  On the first day after surgery I also started drinking Isopure.  I really don't like the taste, it's too sweet for me and the sweetener in it makes me feel yucky.  I figure I can put up with it until I can start full liquids and do the protein shakes.

On the first day after surgery I was amazed at how good I felt.  I spent time downstairs and walked around the house quite a bit.  That certainly helped with the gas!  Second day was just as good and I wasn't taking the painkillers.  I did learn one thing on the second day - do not drink Isopure right before going to bed.  The protein gives you energy!  I think I got to sleep around 4:30!

I have noticed that my sleep pattern has been disrupted.  I do get tired in the afternoon and need a short nap.  The last two nights I slept well.  Unfortunately I think I slept too well!  Last night I went to sleep at 10 and except for getting up at 4 and 8 to use the bathroom, I slept until noon!!!!!  Unfortunately I didn't feel too good today because my blood pressure was very low.  I wound up having to lie down for awhile.  I guess that could explain why it's almost 1AM and I'm still up.

I've been able to go out a few times.  We went to The Vitamin Shoppe yesterday to check out some more protein powders.  I'm looking for ones without sweeteners.  I found some that isn't sweetened at all and some that is sweetened with stevia.  Once I can have them, I'll let you know how they are.

Well, I guess it's time to try and get some sleep.
