My first blog...a year after surgery
on November 3, 2011 4:06 pm
I remember I never wanted to be small. I always considered myself as a sexy big gurl. I had good friends, cute boyfriends, an awesome family and a good career that I excelled in…my life was good. But as I got older and the effects of obesity took its toll on my body …I realized that I might not want to be small but I definitely needed to be SMALLER. So after a miscarriage and a year of trying to do it on my own cause “I don’t need surgery to lose weight”. I admitted to myself that I needed help! So through the process of getting insurance approval I went.  Now here it is a year and a half later and I’m down 135lbs pounds. Life continues to be good. I look better and I FEEL much better. I’m off most of my medicine for pre-existing conditions. And I’m looking forward to TTC baby #1. I started this  process praying that I didn’t have any complications…I did a ton of research before having the surgery focusing on all the negatives such as reactive hypogylecmia, vitamin deficiencies, seizures, etc etc….I told myself I was prepared for anything but prayed hard that I would encounter none of it. Well as luck would have it I had NOOOOO complications. I was barely in any pain after the surgery and was up and walking around within 5hrs of surgery. I haven’t reached my goal weight….have 50lbs to go (as you can see I still don’t want to be a small gurl!) LOL but can’t wait to finally be under 200lbs! Now the moment of truth: After 9months I have lost my way. I haven’t exercised in over 5weeks and I starting eating carbs and sweets (I don’t dump) and not drinking my protein shakes. AS a result my weight loss has suffered. And I have no one to blame but myself. So this weekend I’m getting back on track (literally) I will not waste this tool! I will be more diligent in my food choices and I will drink my protein shakes (after a year I still don’t like them but I do tolerate them). Anyway, people ask me all the time would you do it again. “Yes….Yes,  I would”. RNY has been a blessing and means for me to live a healthier and longer life. This site has also been a blessing thank you to everyone for the encouragement and the invaluable information about vitamins, recipes and just general ups and down as a person living their life after WLS.
