Hi! I'm 51 years old & I've struggled with my weight ever since I reached puberty.
I'm (barely) 5 foot tall, but I now weigh my heaviest at 350 lbs. I have several severe health conditions that greatly contribute to my weight problem. Severe Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, Fibromyalgia, Mixed Apnea (both Obstructive and Central Sleep Apnea), Chronic Pain Disorder, Restless Leg Syndrome, Hypersomnolence & slightly High Blood Pressure. I work full-time as a graphic artist. I've paid for insurance through my work for almost 10 years, but I cannot get coverage for the BPD DS I want or any other WLS, weight loss programs or doctor supervised diets. They are all excluded from my health insurance policy, so I am now trying to find a way to pay for the surgery. Three of my friends and my daughter have all gotten RNY Gastric Bypass surgery paid for through state coverage or medicare. This is very frustrating for me - to say the least. I hope to receive a lot of help and support through this ObesityHelp website.

I need info about Mexico surgery options, Please?
on February 1, 2012 5:20 pm
I have insurance but it does not cover "any weight loss programs, surgeries or doctor supervised diets, for any reason, not even if medically necessary for morbid obesity."
So I am being forced to self-pay for the surgery I need. The BPD w/DS is the surgery I want.
I have a "Center of Excellence" near me, but their policy is that you cannot self-pay for this surgery. They will let you self pay for all the other surgeries that they offer, but not the one I want/need.
Because of this, I am naturally loking for another surgeon/hospital (preferrably a "Center of Excellence") to get my surgery done. Plus, I need to get it as inexpensively as I possibly can.
I've been looking online and I see that there is doctors/hospitals in Mexico that appear to have excellent reputations and the costs are significantly lower there.
I would like to find out more, if anyone can give me more information.
I would greatly apprectiate it.

My concerns are - to start with -
1. Do they speak English well enough for someone that doesn't speak Spanish?
2. What kind of follow-up care would I need?
3. Do they even offer the BPD w/DS surgery in Mexico?
4. How much does it cost in Mexico?
5. How long of a stay in the hospital does this BPD w/DS usually require?

Like I said, these questions are just for starters, so if their is anyone out there that can share a bunch of info with me, I would be very grateful.
Thanks
