Surgeon Testimonial

Matthew Martin
My first initial meeting with Dr. Martin went very well. I've have actually heard a lot of good things about him from others who have had him as their surgeon, as well as his office staff. I really glad to know he will be performing my procedure.rnrnI met with my surgeon this morning (7/16/08), during my pre-op appointment, and we went over some of the things to expect for my surgery and my stay in the hospital. I was a little nervous, because it's only a few days away now. He showed me where he would make his incision for the scopes and where the camera would be. Dr. Martin answered all my questions with clarity and advised me if I hade any questions to call him. He said I would be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday; so that's from 21st (day of surgery) until the 24th or 25th. He gave me the prescriptions for the 2day bile cleansing and I had to purchase the Phospho-Soda... looking forward to that!!rn

Nine Months Post-Op
on April 20, 2009 4:33 pm
I started this journey weighing in at 287 pounds, wearing a size 22/24 and a size 10 shoe! Never would have thought my feet would shrink one size, but they have. I am currently weighing in at 196 pounds and wearing a size 12/14! UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!!!! I knew this was going to change my life forever, but this change has been very dramatic. I am feeling much better about myself these days. My self-esteem has been boosted some, and yes I am turning a few heads nowadays!

There is a little downside to my story though, I've started have a little depression and anxiety, for which I'm on a low dosage antidepressant and an extremely low dosage med for the anxiety. I'm still struggling with taking in my protein shakes because I'm drinking water and eating and not adding those protein shakes into my meal plan. I workout 3 days a week, still taking my Zumba class, which I love, and am now doing twice a week instead of once. I'm also doing weight training to tone up these flabby arms and legs and trying to tone up the sagging stomach and boobs.

I'm loving my new self, still a lot to get adjusted to. I look forward to seeing how my body is going to change in another month. I hope my next post will be less than 5 months.

It's Been a while...
on November 24, 2008 9:46 am
Hello My OH Family,

I know it's been quite some time since my last update.  Well, I'm please to say, the weight is continuing to drop off, however, it seem to be a little slow for me.

I'm 4 months post op and my total weight loss as of today is 60lbs! My doctor and the nutritionist tell me that I'm losing at the rate I should be; about 3 pounds per week with an average monthly weight loss of 15 pounds per month... still seems like I should be down more. But I was told that I needed to increase my exercise from 2 days per week to at least 4 (ok maybe I am slacking in that area).

On a lighter note, the last time I updated I had a WOW moment getting into a size 18, well, now I'm in a size 16!!! I have has a little bit of shedding of my hair , but nothing to cry about, I'm not bald (LOL).

Anyway, in about 6 weeks (January 10th) I will be turning the BIG 4-0!! I'm really getting excited about that and can't wait to see what I'll look like at that time. I still have no love-life, so I'm waiting to see what God has in store for me in that area of my life.

Keep me in your prayers and I hope to update again real soon.

A WOW moment!!!
on September 28, 2008 5:50 pm
Well, I know I'm losing weight, that's not the wow for me. Althought that a GREAT thing. My WOW moment happened yesterday when I went shopping. I've still been wearing my old clothes, size 22. Well, I went in to the department store and I'm now in a size 18!!!  I was so elated! I haven't been in an 18 in about 15 years.  I know there will be more wow moments for me, but this 1st one will be the most memorable one. Just wanted to share.

Hello Friends
on September 26, 2008 7:19 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know I'm doing well. I've started working out. Between school and work, I've found the time to work out at least 3-4 days a week.  I've started going to water aerobics in the morning, at 7:30am (get that much needed energy before work) and after work, on the days I have no class, I take a ZUMBA class, a BellyDancing class, and do weight training.

I've lost 4 inches in my waist and and 3 inches in my hips. I've dropped 2 bra sizes and 1 cup size (from a 44D to a 42C). I would like to stay in a C cup, maybe a 38 but no smaller.

I'm single now and not looking until I accomplish a few more things.  I'm feel so much better about myself. Can't wait to see what lies ahead in the next few months...

My Story

My name is Lisa Wynn. I am a thirty-nine year old single mother of a twelve year old, middle school student.  I grew up in Greensboro, NC and have lived here all my life.  I currently a college student, majoring in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Psychology and I'm employed with Bank of America as a customer service associate.
Weight was never really an issue for me while I was growing up.  I was always a pretty slim, but not skinny adolescent.  During my early to middle adulthood, I pretty much maintained my “girlish” figure.  It wasn’t until around twenty-six, when I began to notice my weight picking up.   I have never really been a big eater.  I did (and still do) tend to miss meals.  I used to go all day and not eat anything at all.  Some days if I ate lunch, I would not eat dinner or if I knew I was going to eat out, I would not eat lunch, or would eat something like a bag of chips and a soda..  Water was not a daily part of my diet.  During that time I would drink 3-4 sodas or more or  juice per day. I started noticing then I would pick up a little weight.  I think I went from a size 14/16 to a size 18/20.
When I became pregnant with my daughter, I gained a total of twenty pounds, which I lost quickly after she was born.  I notice that my self-esteem started to go down.  What I used to think look good on me, made me look fat.  It just seemed like my face and head start to get bigger and I just became upset with my appearance.  By that time I had increased in dress size from 18/20 to 22/24 which is my current size today.
Over the past 10-12 years, I have tried almost everything possible to lose weight.  I’ve been on numerous diets, taken all types of pills from prescription Redux and Phen-phen/Fastin to over-the-counter weight reduction products.  I’ve gone on the internet and order pills to help with my weight loss. I have probably been a member of every fitness club, including the YMCA(now I'm currently a member of a local fitness club and have been since January).  I was also a patient with Physicians Weightloss, which I joined in July 2006. I would be motivated for a while, but when it seemed like the weight was not coming off, I would give up.  When I went to the information session for the bariatric surgery, on November 13, 2007 I weighed in at 287,  I was devastated!  I knew that night that I had made the right decision.
Last year when I noticed I was having problems walking from the parking lot to the building, I knew it was time for me to get serious about my weightloss.  I still consider myself pretty young and I want to be around for my daughter.  I have asthma, and my knees and ankles hurt from all the extra weight.  I started my research online and through people I knew who had the surgery about four years ago.  I contemplated with the decision for a while, as well as prayed for God to help me make the right decision. So, now I'm here, ready to become a member of the loser's club and kick start my new beginning. And as I go through my journey I hope you will be there with me. I'm looking forward to my rebirth, my new beginning!
