OMG
on June 19, 2008 11:38 am
Boot camp is freakin' killing me! We ran 4 miles today, and most of it was hills. Can you believe that? I can't! I was able to run about 3/4 of it, and I walked for about 1/4. The nice thing is that I was not the last one in the pack. Since boot camp started, I have been losing about half a pound or so a day, and it feels good, even though it is the ultimate torture.

I do hate how some of the people, including the instructors, doubt what I can do. We were bench pressing the other day, and most girls were just using the bar. I knew I could do more than that, so I added two 25 lb. weights(which made it right around 100 lbs.) All of these people came running over to tell me that it was too much for me to lift, and I began doubting myself. I started to take the weight off, and then my husband saw what we happening and he came running over. He told me not to listen to what other people say, and that I know my own body, and if I think I can do it, then give it a try. So I got on the bench, and I was able to do 6 sets of 10 reps(so I lifted it a total of 60 times)! It felt good to prove those bitches wrong. I hate how people just assume that all fat people are just weak and lazy pieces of crap!

Guilty
on June 2, 2008 9:59 pm
I am feeling some major guilt lately about not being on here much. I have about 46 unread messages in my inbox, and just have not had the time to read them. I guess the truth is, now that I have lost over 100 lbs, I don't want to be stuck in front of a computer for hours at a time. Instead, I am out living my life. I do want to apologize to people that I have not gotten back to. If you want to chat, your best bet is to send me an email at jarheadandxldiva@mchsi.com  I usually check that email on a daily basis.

Things are going great for me, and a lot has happened. I graduated with my PN(practical nursing) degree in May. I am off for the summer, and then I will start back to school in the fall, for my RN(registered nursing) degree. I am planning on taking my licensure exam sometime this summer, but I am trying to plan it around our yearly family vacation to Florida. I can't wait. I am going to get on every single ride that I missed out on, because I was scared I wouldn't fit or I didn't fit. Plus, I am hoping I will be able to hop on that airplane, and not have to worry about asking for an extender. Wouldn't that be nice!

I am still hitting the gym hard. I have been going for a couple hours in the morning, and then again at night for an hour or two. It has become a real passion of mine. Last week they asked me to speak at the quarterly board of directors meeting at the Y. It was a real honor, and even though I was terrified, I did it! In the past, I never would have had the balls to get up in front of a large room, and talk about my weight. The Y has also asked me to do a member spotlight. I filled out a questionnaire about my weight loss journey, and then gave them before and after pictures. My stuff is hanging up in the lobby on the bulletin board, at my local Y.

A week ago, I had been stuck at a plateau for 3 weeks. I met with the fitness director at the Y, and he gave me some different things to try. The most exciting thing about talking with him is that he asked me if I would like to be a wellness coach at the Y. That would consist of helping other people set goals, and teaching them how to use the machines. I was shocked that he would want someone that weighs 228 lbs. to do that, but he said that he still considers me a "fit" person, even at my size. That felt good to hear. I have always thought that, but I thought maybe I was just fooling myself.

Next week I will be doing a 6 week boot camp program at the Y. I am nervous about it, so I guess I will just have to wait and see what it is all about. I tried it 2 years back, and was so sore after the first class, that I never went back. This time I am just going to try and go at my own pace, and not try and keep up with the 20 year old skinny minnie's. Next week Alayna will be starting a preschool camp at the Y. She is pretty excited about that. Lexy is getting ready to go on a 14 day cruise to Alaska. The spoiled little brat! I have been dragging her to the gym every day with me. We really enjoy this class called Body Jam. It is a hip hop dancing class. Even though we look like dorks and are lost half the time, we have a lot of fun in that class. I told the instructor that I feel like I am in a Saturday Night Live skit or something when I do that class. That is how much fun it is.

I have been doing a lot of body sculpting and toning class too, to help with the loose skin. I know I will probably have to have some skin removed later on down the road, but every little bit of muscle under there will help tighten it up. I hope!

Okay, now I am just blabbing about nothing. I gotta get off of here, and get some sleep. I didn't realize it is after midnight. I hope everyone out there is doing great, and I miss you guys. Take care!

Camping Trip
on May 5, 2008 1:43 pm
My family and I went camping this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska. I was able to do things I haven't been able to do in years!

We arrived in Omaha on Friday afternoon, and set up camp. Then we headed over to an indoor water resort, called Coco Key. I got up the guts to go down numerous water slides, which I had not done in over 15 years! I had a blast. It was like I was a kid again. That night we played at the campsite playground, and I was able to get on the teeter totter with Alexis. I hadn't been on one of those in forever either, and we had a good time.

Friday night was rough, because it was cold, windy, and rainy. We managed, but I was glad when it finally cleared up on Saturday. We woke up Saturday, and headed over to the Strategic Air and Space Museum. I didn't think I would like it, but they had "Space Days" going on. The kids got to do a lot of cool experiments, and there was a real astronaut there. John and I rode in a flight simulator(which I have never done, for fear of being too heavy for it, or the seat belt not being big enough to fit). It was fun, but he did way too many barrel rolls, so I felt like I was gonna puke!

Then we headed to a place called the Amazing Pizza Machine. It is kind of like Chuck E Cheese, but in my opinion, it is a lot more fun. To get in, you pay for the all you can eat buffet, and they have all kinds of stuff to choose from, including every flavor of icee that you can imagine. They have glow in the dark mini golf, go-karts, full size rides(indoors), and all kinds of cool games. The only thing that did burst my bubble a bit is that I got in the go-kart with Alayna, and I could not get the seat belt buckled. I could have taken my sweatshirt off, and sucked my gut in, but I said to heck with it. The guy handed me an extender, and I was feeling bad, until I heard John struggling to get his seat belt fastened too. He ended up having an extender also, so that made things all better. LOL

After we left that place, we went to an outdoor safari. You drive through it in your car, and the animals come right up to you. It was a lot of fun. They also have a part where you get out of your car, and you can walk on all these trails. Last time we were there, I was too big to walk up the huge hill, but this time it was a piece of cake! It was worth it too, and we spent a lot of quality family time together, hiking the trails.

After we left there, we headed back to the campsite for a campfire. The kids cooked hotdogs and s'mores over the fire, and we sat around telling scary stories. Alayna thought that was pretty cool, but that night she ended up haivng to sleep with us!

Yesterday we spent the day at the zoo, which was awesome. I love the Omaha zoo. Then we headed toward the Old Market area, downtown. We have been there before, but a lot of our favorite places were no longer there. That was a bummer! After walking around down there for awhile, we headed back to the campsite, and rented pedal cars. Alayna rode on the back of mine, and it was good exercise! I was wheezing trying to race Alexis! Then we played some mini golf, and later a game of Candy Land. I swear Alayna wins every single time!

We got up this morning, and came home. We are already thinking about our next camping trip, but aren't sure where yet. We have a couple of places in mind- Branson, Black Hills in South Dakota, or Wisconsin Dells. I can't wait to do everything, and try everything I have been missing out on all these years. How exciting!

I DID IT!!!
on May 1, 2008 6:03 am

WOO HOO! I am so excited. Today is graduation day from nursing school, and I am thrilled. I feel so blessed to be walking across that stage tonight, but I am also nervous. I have earned it, that is for damn sure! Less than 1/3 of our class is graduating, that is how tough that program was!

I will be wearing my black and white polka dot halter dress, with a bright red shrug(in a "normal" size XL!!!), and bright red shoes. Plus I went yesterday, and got a pedicure. So my little piggies are also bright red. Very cute! I will be sure to get pictures, and post them on here.

It has been 9 months since my lap band surgery, and I hit a huge goal yesterday. I reached my 100 lbs. lost! It is unbelievable, and I feel great. I love the daily compliments I get from people too. It is so worth the time and effort I have invested in this. I am still working out daily(except Sundays) for 2-3 hours a day. I am doing kickboxing, toning and boot camp classes at the Y. I also do weight lifting, the elliptical, walking and RUNNING on the treadmill. I am only able to run in bursts of about 2 minutes at a time right now, and then I walk for a minutue or two, and then run again. It has helped me tremendously with getting this weight off!

1st highlight
on April 12, 2008 8:38 pm

Normally I get my hair cut at Great Clips, and they do an okay job for cheap. Well my Mom retired, and she is currently working as a receptionist at a beauty salon. She has been bugging me forever to do something different with my hair, and she said she would pay. So I finally took her up on her offer, and it was awesome. I told the stylist to do whatever she wanted to me.

I have never colored or highlighted my hair before, and she decided to add caramel and cherry cola highlights to my dark brown, boring hair color. Plus it covered up all of my gray, and made me look younger. She also evened up my hair, because one side was a lot longer than the other. I guess I was getting what I was paying for at Great Clips!

Then she styled it with a straightener, which I really liked. I didn't know what I would look like with straight hair, but I like it! I sent a picture of myself and my new hair to a couple of friends, and two of them did not even recognize me. It feels really good to hear that. I do feel like a new woman!

My sister and I took our 3 year olds out to the mall today to play. They acted like complete animals! They fight so much you would think they were sisters, instead of cousins. I swear I was so stressed out by the time we left there, I felt like eating a whole bag of chocolate! Instead I came home, took a bite of John's chocolate donut, it got stuck, and I puked it up. I hate how I always reach for food when I am stressed. I need to find new ways of dealing with it, because the food thing just isn't going to work anymore. Thank God!

Okay, I better get off of here. I still have not started studying for my exam that I have on Tuesday! I just wanted to update my blog, as promised. Take care, and have a great rest of the weekend!

My Story

Hi, my name is Gina. I am a 30 year old mother of two girls. Their ages are 12 and 2, and I also have a hubby. We live in Des Moines, Iowa. I am a nursing student, a Mary Kay lady, and I also buy and sell on Ebay.

A friend of mine told me about this website, so I thought I would give it a try. I have been overweight my entire life. I can remember being on a diet at the age of 4! I have pretty much been dieting on and off my whole life. I have lost 75 lbs. twice, and of course both times I put the weight back on, plus more! So I finally came to the realization that I could not do this on my own! Originally I was going to have the rny, but I changed my mind. I had a cousin that died from it, and it just scared the hell out of me! I am too young to die from surgery or from problems caused by my weight. Then a friend told me about the lap band. It sounds like it is quite a bit safer, even though I may not lose the weight as quickly.

I am pretty much ready to roll with the lap band procedure. My insurance gave me the okay, and I am meeting with my surgeon this Friday to schedule my surgery. I am so excited! I can't wait to have my life back, and not feel as though I am always being judged by people everytime I walk into a room.

If anyone has any advice/helpful tips or if you just want to talk, I would love to hear from you. Shoot me a message.

I had the lap band surgery on 7/23/07. Everything went smoothly, and it has changed my life. I will be getting my first fill on 8/28/07.
