This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I've never had surgery before in my life but it's something I have to do in order to live, have kids, and be happier. So...here goes!  God will take me through like He's done throughout my life

Craving alcohol??? Anyone else?
on September 29, 2012 1:13 pm
Ok so I was reading an article about how people who have RNY can start craving alcohol. I had heard about this before but I was never a drinker so I didn't think it would affect me. I'd only drink socially and it was never to get drunk. In fact my tolerance level was so high that I could have more than 3 drinks and not be the slightest bit drunk. It runs in my family.

Now I see that I actually want to have wine or champagne in the house all the time. I actually am ordering a glass of Moscato with dinner. I'm not drinking a lot or even every day. It's just a lot more than I used to. I use to never care if there was wine in the house or want something strong to drink with dinner every now and then. Now, I think about it and actually go to the store to get a bottle in case I want one.

I know the calories are murder and it's not the best thing to be doing while on a journey to get healthier. I just never had these urges before. Did I just substitute one habit for another since I can't eat as much??

I had a friend who had RNY years ago and she said the way she gained back some weight was because she couldn't sleep and drank two glasses of wine at night. She was a wine drinker before though. However, she said after the surgery, she wanted it more.

Has anyone else had this happen to them??

OMG...Size 12!
on May 22, 2012 6:48 pm
I just can't believe this. I thought it would have taken longer. I went to the store to buy some jeans and didn't really know what size I was. I've just been wearing my old clothes that I couldn't fit into before. They are baggy but didn't look so bad. So, I needed some new jeans and went to mall. After taking up a 16 and a 14, I went to try them on. They were still big. So, the salesperson came back with a size 12. I was a little hesitant because this is just surreal to me right now. I could not believe that I fit into a size 12 skinny jeans and a size 12 shirt! I almost cried in the dressing room. I had to call my mom because I haven't worn a size 12 since she was buying my clothes. Thank God for this journey...confindence level is on the rise

Trying on old sizes
on April 2, 2012 9:55 am
Well, I haven't tried on new clothes in a long time. However, since my "skinnier" clothes were getting loose, I decided to go out and see what's what. I didn't really know what size I have become so far. So, I went to Marshalls on Saturday and saw this Calvin Kline dress in a size 16. It fit perfectly. I haven't been a size 16 in 7 years. It was truly a liberating feeling that I am one more step to shopping in any store I want and not shopping in a specialty store. In 3 months, I have gone from a size 22-24 to a size 16. It's been a lot of hard work but eating right, and exercising has paid off. The results outweigh the surgery, the small portions, and staying away from junk food. I can say with confidence that I'm gonna look amazing this summer. This...is......AWESOME SAUCE!!

The Insanity Workout is AWESOME
on March 20, 2012 6:50 am
My husband and I started the insanity workout 2 weeks ago. People thought we were crazy for even trying to attempt it. Even my husband didn't want to do it because he's done this type of workout before for years for football and doesn't like it too much. However, he said he would do it with me to support me.  It's strenuous but it's only 30 to 45 minutes a day. We cleared it with our doctor.

I had been working out with the free trainer at my job doing boxing, basketball drills, and other things. I was getting a little bored with it and wanted to challenge myself a lot. So I bought the Insanity DVDs from Beach Body and decided to do the 60 Day Challenge. This is the same company that puts out Power 90 and P90X.

We started with the fitness test. I could do a lot but not as much as the people on the DVD. I knew that these workouts were going to push me further.

It's not been easy. Even the people working out with you on the DVD get winded and have to take breaks. lol We go at our own pace, as it instructs you, and try to push harder and harder. This passed week was the first time that I could actually get through the entire warmup. (Yes, I said warmup lol)

It's been 2 weeks and my husband stomach has shrunk and he's lost around 10 pounds. Mine is getting flatter and flatter. I'm losing weight because of RNY as well but, I see where I'm getting toned up in the places where I didn't want hanging skin because of my WLS.

My husband is now really liking the results. He said he feels better in his body and more energetic. He said that he thought he was strong being able to lift 350lb weights but this workout has taught him that he really wasn't in the shape that he could be in.

I am more energetic as well. I feel great. I look greak in my clothes. My skin is tightening up. I'm seeing muscles forming. My butt is starting to get firm. (You do A LOT of squatting) I think I'm getting a beach body for real!

We did the fitness test today and I'm know I am stronger and was able to do almost twice that I did before on the first day.

This workout was a great investment. I know I'll use it for years to come to challenge myself and do something different every once in a while. I'm glad I'm taking the challenge! I'll let you all know how it goes after the 60 days but I already know it's gonna be great if I'm getting these results after only 2 weeks.

This might sound like a commercial but I've never really wanted to do this with my body before. I'm just glad my mindset is changing to compliment my WLS.

Monthly Group Meetings
on February 6, 2012 6:06 pm
I just came back fro my second monthly group meeting and I have to say that I enjoy the 1.5 to 2 hours of time with people who have gone through, are thinking of going through, or about to go through WLS. It's like a live version of OH. I would suggest that anyone who has had or is thinking about WLS go to a group meeting, talk to the doctors there, meet the people who've done it. I'm still learning and it's great. Today I learned that my doctor made my stomach the about the size of an egg. Makes me think a lot more when trying to eat. Now I have more of a visual. I can't wait until next month!

My Story

My weight loss journey started during college. I just started putting on the pounds despite the fact that I would excersise and cut portions. It was a little nerve racking but I didn't really pay that much attention because everyone would constantly tell me how good I look lol. As I got older, it seemed that I would have to starve myself and workout for 2 hours a day just to be in a size 12. I just thought I had a slow metabolism and this just what I was dealt.
About a year and a half ago I started to track everything I did with my doctors. I got all of them involved because I was convinced that there was something wrong with me. I would wake up each morning to work out with a trainer and watch what I eat. Even though I was doing all of this, I would gain 7 to 12 pounds in a week and loose maybe 4. Along with some other symptoms, I did not pay much attention to (fungus on my neck, bad acne, no periods, high levels of testerone, excessive hair growth on my chin)  my doctors diagnosed me with PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I found out that it would be extremely difficult for me to have kids as well. The only ways to fight this syndrome is to lose weight but the sydrome makes you gain weight. So WLS can combat that. So here I am
