Surgeon Testimonial

Robert T. Marema M.D.
Dr. Marema is absolutely amazing! What an incredible human being and what a brilliant surgeon. Over time, my opinion of him only gets even stronger. He is kind and gentle and willing to answer any questions you may have. I feel with all of my heart that he absolutely loves what he does for the morbidly obese and that each and every one of his patients is equally as important to him.

His team is also amazing: First, I was lucky enough to have another doc from his office doing the rounds at the hospital; Dr. Diaz. Dr. Diaz is also amazing. He came by everyday and made sure I was ok. He was really gentle about removing the JP Drain - I was thankful. He always had a smile on his face too.

The rest of the staff members at US Bariatric are all special in their own way. They are all very professional and very supportive. No question is a stupid question to them.

What I love the most about the program at US Bariatric is that the aftercare program includes everything I need. They even have the vitamins and protein supplements at the offie to give to you - you never have to go anywhere else but there.

About the Pre-op info: They have support group meeting monthly and weekly info sessions. Before you actually go to an appt at the office you attend an info session where they then give you a folder with information they ask you to fill out and send back in order to include you in their database. I strongly recommend you do this step by step and not try to skip a step. This will make the entire process work smoothly for you.

To me, the most important is surgical competence and I feel that at US Bariatric with Dr. Marema or any of his associates you are getting the absolute best! I also feel that bedside manner is extremely importanta and as I said before, the two of the surgeons I have dealt with are absolutely amazing human beings. Most important Dr. M is an incredible surgeon you can be 100% of that.

Hi everyone, my name is Yoli Suarez. I was morbidly obese. The day that I went in for my surgery I was weighing a total of 280 lbs at 5'6".  I had spent approximately 10 years  of my life carrying around that weight. While I lived my life "fat" I did not see it. Today, when I look back at my photographs I feel an overwhelming amount of sadness. Firstly, I had never realized how heavy I really was. I can honestly tell you that I did not see the "fatness" when I would look in the mirror on a daily basis. I can remember that I slowly went from size 7/8 all the way to 24/26 w/out once realizing what was happening to my body and what I was doing to myself.

My Story

At one point I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. As you know this is a dangerous disease that causes one to stop breathing in the middle of the night. The oxygen does not get to the brain and it causes you to be extremely tired and lethargic during the day. I suffered from lack of concentration and memory loss. This was also due to my hypothyroidism. I also suffered from terrible heartburn.

For a very long time, many years as a matter of fact I did research on Gastric Bypass and I contemplated it and dreamt of what  life would be like for me living in a thin body. At one point I discovered this website. Obesity Help is an incredible source. It helped me find my surgeon and make new friends and get all of the information that I needed.

The most important thing that I recommend to anyone looking to have this surgery is that you educate yourself about the pros and cons both pre-op and post-op and that you find the absolute best doctor for this surgery. You must weigh a lot of things when determing the best surgeon.

I chose to have my surgery with Dr. Robert T. Marema from US Bariatric in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I owe him so very much. Dr. Marema is not only a gastric bypass patient himself but he is the ABSOLUTE BEST in this field. May God Bless him always. I love him and all of his staff. The program at US Bariatric is by far the best. Everything that you can think of that you may need he has in his offices. From chaplains, to the best nurses, nutrition, therapist, support groups, just everything! Not to mention a Lifetime post op program.

I have lost a total of 147 lbs and I have kept the pounds off so far so good. I had my surgery on 5/21/04 at 280lbs. Today I am weighing 140. My lowest weight was 131lbs.
