Surgeon Testimonial

John L. Coon (COE)
Dr. Coon has been wonderful. He answered all of my questions and we, together, decided that bypass was better for me than a lapband. rnrnDr. Coon's staff is friendly and knowledgeable. rnrnI attended nutrition class and nursing education class as well as support group on the same day, which works out well. Dr. Coon attended the support group meeting in person, so people were able to ask HIM questions as well. rnrnOverall, I would rate Dr. Coon 10/10.

Bought some clothes
on January 12, 2010 8:18 pm
I had to buy some clothes today. I didn't buy a lot because I am still losing about 5 pounds per week. But I had to get some new jeans and tops. I also bought some scrubs for work too because THOSE looked really bad. Gonna be a busy week with work and Aubrey's Journeyman graduation on Saturday.

I bought a bike!!!
on January 9, 2010 3:38 pm
I am so excited. I bought a very nice cross-over/ hybrid bike (made for mountain biking and road biking). Aubrey and i will pick it up on Saturday. I will go riding on Saturday too. I haven't had or ridden a bike in a very long time... the last time I can remember is my sophomore year of college (15 years ago).

Aubrey and I are going to get fit together. He will buy his bike soon and we will go riding on weekends together. Otherwise, i will go riding without him. WOOHOO!!!! I am so happy to have a new way to exercise.

Feeling great, looking great
on January 8, 2010 12:07 pm
I am down over 50 pounds and I feel great!!!

Aubrey and I are about to go shopping for bicycles so that we can BOTH get some exercise. He is just now realizing that I weigh less than he does and it is motivating him to lose weight as well.

I have decided that I will buy some new clothes when I am under 200 lbs... which should be next month. Gotta save up for a new, half-wardrobe. Not gonna buy too much until I reach my goal weight.

Aubrey tells me I am beautiful, and that feels good. He is enjoying my new body too!!!

Life is good
on December 28, 2009 12:44 am
I am so happy, for the first time in a long time. I had a great Christmas with my family, plus we went to Disneyland yesterday and I walked all over the park without having to stop and sit and wait to catch my breath (one of the many benefits of no longer smoking).

My sister is already down over 15 pounds in 10 days. She went back to El Paso tonight so she can get her staples removed on Tuesday. She is doing really well.

My boyfriend and I are back on track, thank goodness. I am planning a special few days in Vegas this week. We are going on a helicopter ride and maybe to Zion National Park in Utah.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish everyone a very happy new year!!!

Happy Holidays
on December 22, 2009 10:13 am
I am looking forward to the holidays for the first time in many years. My family will be celebrating Christmas at my house with some unexpected additions this year (my niece and her husband from Alaska are staying in town for Christmas).

Day after Christmas I plan to go shopping for some clothes that actually fit... my clothes are starting to look ridiculous. Then, later that day, we are off to Disneyland. I am confident that I will have no problem eating sensibly while there. The next morning we are having brunch with the characters.

On the 30th, we are all off to Las Vegas for the New Year's Eve celebrations. Bunch of us are going out... including my boyfriend, my oldest sister and her man, some friends from Hawaii and San Diego, and of course, my sister Robyn, who had gastric bypass last Monday. Should be a fun weekend.

Then its back to reality!!! Back to work and all the magic is gone... I guess!!!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

My Story

I have been overweight (obese) since I was a child. I lost some weight in high school and was about 150 lbs in my last year of high school and thought I was HUGE. Now I realize that 150 lbs is a healthy weight for me. It took me 12 years to put on this weight, and I have struggled to take it off again. But each diet I went on would cause me to lose weight then gain it all back and more until I finally reached my breaking point this past January.

My family has been supportive but others, including my boyfriend, have not been. I have had to explain to many people that I am not looking for a cheap out, that I am looking for a tool to help me lose weight. I am fully aware that this will be hard work for me. I am making drastic changes to my life and lifestyle. I am so sick of hearing people tell me that they knew someone who had similar surgery and that person is miserable or gained all the weight back. The results are individualized, and MY results will be complete success.

I encouraged my sister and my mother to look into surgery as well. My sister has a consultation with the Bariatric Surgeon in two weeks. My mother is a little more hesitant, which I can understand. But my sister and I are young and want to get healthy before it is too late.

I am excited, nervous, and happy all at the same time. I look forward to the challenge of losing the weight and keeping it off. It will be hard work, but anything worth having is difficult to attain.
