Surgeon Testimonial

Nilesh Patel
My first impression was that he seemed like a good surgeon and that I would be taken care of and he made me feel like his office and staff were very caring.
Over time, my impression changed though because every single time I called the office with a question or concern, noone ever answers the phone. The office manager never returned my phone call or email. It's hard to find answers to simple questions like: can i take anything for my headache since we are just a few days away from surgery? Can I please get info about the support group so that I can attend one prior to surgery?
I met once with the surgeron, which was when they were supposed to have a seminar. That didn't happen. He came by my bed to sign something the day of surgery but never spoke a word to me. The day after surgery he came by for less than 5 minutes.
He's nice but in my opinion, this is truly just a business deal to him. This is a major surgery and my experience felt more like I'd driven thru a fast food drive thru.
Never spoke about aftercare.
Wish I'd changed surgeons, even if it meant that I'd have had to wait until after the new year. The website testimonials said that he called after surgery and I never received a call. I was told that I'd receive a call 1 time 24 hours after leaving the hospital, then after another 48 hours, I'd get a call again. No one ever called.
Of course, this was my experience and I'm not saying that everyone will have it the same.

I'm Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired!
Proud mother of 2 sons, ages 17 and 14.
Have struggled with my weight for 15 yrs now. I've tried numerous programs and diets and I'm sick of them because it's too hard to lose and also to keep off. It's tough and frustrating. At the beginning of the year, I started Weight Watchers and exercising. I said that '2008 was going to be great and this is the year that I lose the weight.' Yeah well, after 2 months of WW and going to the gym...only 2 lbs lost. So, that was that. I'm ready to try this tool though and be successful at this. I'm alittle scared but trust that if I get approved, it's my sign that 'it was meant to be.'

So Tired
on November 11, 2008 12:34 pm
I'm 2 wks out and I feel sooooo tired! I am taking my vitamins and doing my best to get my liquid and protein in but I am still tired. I have to take a nap every 2 or 3 hours because I just cannot stay awake. I even fell asleep when I was driving the other day. My upper back also really aches after sitting for a couple of hours.  I'll have to be sure to mention this to the dr when I go in for my 3 wk post op appt. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm home. Wish they would've kept me another day. I felt much better yesterday. Last night was chaotic and they changed my IV two times but poked me several times and IVs are not fun.

Well, the time has come...

I'm not nervous YET. I don't know, maybe it hasn't hit me or maybe I just know that I am blessed and God will take care of me. I'm actually pretty excited and can't wait.
I just want to mention to anyone that is reading this and thinking about having this surgery. If you are told to do nothing but clear liquids the day before surgery and can't have anything past 8pm, like I was told...drink as much liquids as you can. I am so thirsty right now! I'm regretting doing other things instead of just relaxing.
Well, except for one...I took my boys to the Nightmare on Grayson (haunted house). I took a break from the toilet and just prayed that none of the monsters scared the shit out of me literally! It was actually pretty good and I made it out okay. My pants were just fine and I didn't embarrass my boys or leave any evidence that I was there! It was pretty warm in there though and that is when I started wishing that I'd had more water.
Anyhow, Thank you all for the encouraging words and prayers. I will see you on the loser's bench!

Still Waiting....
on October 24, 2008 1:33 pm

The time is dragging now!

Before I forget, I wanted to mention that my angel  is Penny B.!
She's also here in San Antonio and called me earlier this week! I was surprised to hear from her and must say that she's taking her duties very seriously!
If you read this, Penny, THANK YOU!

My Story

For the past 15 years, I've been struggling with my weight. Right after having my second son, I was at 155. After that, I just kept going up. In 2000, I was at 175. I attempted Weight Watchers and then LA Weight Loss. About 3 years ago, I was at 198. Then, I noticed a few things that weren't normal: dry skin and hair, memory loss, very low energy levels, weight gain (especially in my abdomen area), among other things. My bloodwork said that my thyroid was borderline, according to my GP. However, a friend told me that I needed to see a specialist and sure enough, he put me on thyroid meds immediately. Ever since then, he's increased it slowly and some of my symptoms have improved but in January of 2008, I decided that I needed to do something before I turned 35 so I began exercising and Weight Watchers again! In 2 months, I lost 2 lbs. So, 1 lb a month? Needless to say, I wasn't motivated so I stopped. I wasn't feeling better either. My energy levels to this day are very low. I can take extra b-12 and I still feel extremely tired. Energy drinks do not help me at all. My endo will not up my synthroid b/c he thinks my TSH level is fine. I'm now weighing in at 225 lb. Slowly but surely my weight keeps creeping up and I am feeling worse as I keep gaining. So, I've met with a surgeon and am now waiting for my insurance's answer.
