It was a stricture after all

Aug 21, 2011

I finally had my doctor appointment on Thursday and he set me up for an endoscopy the next morning, turns out it was a pretty severe stricture. He wants to go back in in 4 weeks to recheck it doesn't start to close again.  I haven't eaten practically in 2 1/2 months, so I was in heaven the past two days.  I want to tell everyone that when I was sick (throwing up every single day) I thought that that was part of the process, if I would've called the doctor sooner I could have avoided theses months of agony.  Thanks again everyone! Now it's time to get some energy back and start living!!

9 Weeks

Aug 10, 2011

It's now been 9 weeks and I have lost 50 lbs.  I only had that good week at 6 weeks and then it was back to being sick every day.  I made an appointment with the surgeon for next week (he's been on vaca ) and hopefully he will set me up with an endoscopy very soon after.  I am hoping that I have a stricture so that he can fix it and I can get on with my life.  If he tells me there is nothing wrong I will cry!  I can't eat anything but my protein drinks, lunch meats and cheese with out getting sick.  I can get my vits in and most of my water. I average about 500 calories a day and have been trying very hard to get to 60g of protein.
On a positive, the weight has been coming off pretty steady and I just got rid of ALL my clothes. I finally can see the difference in myself and I think my husband is getting excited seeing it too.

6 weeks and feeling pretty good.............

Jul 18, 2011

Wow,  I had a rough few weeks so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to feel as good as I have the last few days.  I'm 1 pound shy of 40 lbs lost,  I do not see as drastic a change in my appearence that I would think 40 lbs would bring.  I did however go on an amusement ride with my girls down the shore and it was so fun,  it's been 10 years.  I hope for many more good days.

Begging for someone to tell me it gets better.....

Jul 06, 2011

I just hit 4 weeks post op.  The first 3 were pretty positive, but the last week I have thrown up just about every day.  I started soft food Sat, so its been six days.  I have only consumed cheese, eggs, some chicken and tonight ham and every time I am uncomfortable for hours after eating and then it comes back up about 2 hours later.  I am going to call the doctor tomorrow but until then was looking for some support. I know only a couple people who have undergone this surgery and those couple haven't dealt with this issue.  Please tell me it gets better soon......

10 days out.............

Jun 18, 2011

I can't believe that the surgery part is behind me, I worried about it for 2 years and it was over like that.  Everything went very well and i'm already feeling so good.  My question for anyone is, does this bowel thing ever get to a controlable point? I have not said what have i done yet but i don't know if I can handle this forever.  I went out today, to my sons baseball game,  I could feel the gas building but I was afraid to let it out because I couldn't be positive it wasn't poop.  Tell me it gets better.  Also, I just started pureed food a couple days ago and its gross,  I haven't found anything to taste good.  I noticed some of you are already free to have what you want, are you having any troubles? Are you at least low-fat and no sugar?  Just wondering why I have to do puree for 3 weeks then soft food for 4 weeks and others don't (besides sugeons preference).  Any advice would be wonderful

The diarreah nerves have set in

May 22, 2011

I got a call from the surgery scheduler on Fri that they moved my surgery up to June 7th, that is 2 weeks away!!!  Up until that phone call I was so excited but now the fear has set in.  My kids will still be in school with all activities still going on, so there is a lot of scheduling going on PLUS I do not depend well on others, I'm a no one can do it as well as me (when it comes to my kids atleast). My next worry is of course the pain, then the liquid diet for 4 weeks and trying to eat baby food but I guess when you get hungry enough you do what you have to. Any advise would be awesome so I can try and calm myself in the next 2 weeks.

Getting nervous

May 19, 2011

I just got a call from the surgeons office checking in and making me aware that there is only 6 more weeks until my surgery ( as if I wasn't aware).  They told me one of my clearances might run out before my surgery and asked if I would be interested in moving up my date if there was a cancelation, of course I said yes.  Now, in the hour since the call I find myself freaking out.  I am a planner, with 4 kids, I have to be and the thought of them calling to say it's time scares me.........Deep breathe............
I have a couple more steps to finish,  a class and test on DS and a nutrition class. I need to order my vitamins and supplements. Any advice on which flavors are tolarable? How about protien shakes and bars?
Kids are getting off the bus, I'll ramble on more later

Hello

Mar 29, 2011

I'm so excited to finally have my date scheduled, unfortunately it isn't until July.  So now i'm just trying to absorb all this info on what to expect.  I would love any info from DS'ers that you would like to give.  I am extremely nervous on the diet post-op because obviously I don't do a good job on healthy eating now.  That has become my job for the next 3 months, to get better eating habits and exercise established
