Horrifying Hair Loss!

Jul 18, 2017

I have been reading everything anyone posts in the WLS groups on Facebook. Trying to soak in all the knowledge & advice. It gets to be overwhelming sometimes because everyone has an opinion so then I'm left doing the footwork to figure out what I think is best for me. It's crazy! The most recent thing I did this with was the whole Genepro being a good source of protein vs them being lying jerks. The jury is still out on that one for me right now. I've been reading everything I can about it but for now I think I'm just going to steer clear of it and stick to another whey protein isolate since it's supposed to be the best for bariatric patients to absorb. I was saddened when I found out my beloved Premiere Protein shakes don't contain whey protein isolate. I'm not sure what I'll use now. I'm leaning toward picking up some flavorless & chicken soup flavored Unjury for savory things. For sweet flavors I'm looking at the Inspire protein powders you can buy from the Bariatric Eating website. I haven't completely made my mind up yet so I'm open to suggestions.

I guess my whole reasoning behind making sure I'm getting the "right" type of protein powder is because I'm terrified of losing my hair. I've read that proper protein intake is key to keeping your hair after bariatric surgery. Since the claim is that certain types of protein aren't absorbed as readily as other types I want to make sure I am buying the right type so I can hopefully experience the least amount of hair loss. I know a lot of it comes down to individuals bodies handling the shock of surgery differently but I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to prevent it, if I can. I'll also be taking proper vitamins. I have always had long, thick hair so I feel like it's a part of who I am. If it's between my hair and being healthy though I'll have to say goodbye to my hair! I was lamenting my worries to my sweet work friend and she said that if that happens she'll help hook me up with a good person to put in extensions. I'm down to wear a wig too if it comes to that! I just don't want to have to wear a wig in the summer. It's way too hot for that!

Please let me know if you have any protein source suggestions! Also share your hair loss experience with me!
