Day after surgery

May 10, 2017

well I did it! This blog may be everywhere. I just got a shot of diuladid and it hits fast.

Yesterday was my bypass. And it went great. Originally I wanted a sleeve but I have reflux. They said I might just have reflux from a hernia. In that case a sleeve shouldn't cause my GERD to get worse. But I decided to play it safe and get RNY. I'm glad I did because turns out I don't have a hernia so chances are that the sleeve would have made the GERD worse.

Honestly, my pain is pretty manageable. The gave me an epidural before surgery and it worked wonders. It wore off this morning so I'm now on an IV pain relief. But I'm still in minimal pain. A little gas pain in my left shoulder but not bad. And my incisions hurt but my insides feel fine. The part that hurts the most is my drain. But my pain is probably a 4 out of 10. So not bad.

i had to get a cath last night bc my bladder was super full and I just couldn't go. But I finally went on my own this morning at 10 so I didn't have to get a catheter again. Praise the Lord.

right before surgery started I got really scared and almost jumped off the metal bed thing. I started to have a panic attack right as the gave me my sedatitives. Perfect timing.

I think once my inscisions heal up I'll be good. So far drinking water is no problem. I was worried about that bc I know some people struggle to drink after but so far so good.

ny only other complaint is that my roommate is elderly lady who keeps getting mad at me bc she thinks I'm a nurse so I keep telling her I can't give her a shot. I think I'm just confusing her more. Oh well, what can ya do.

all in all I'm feeling okay. Little pain and little nausea. Very tired. Thanks for the support!

So close! So many emotions!

May 05, 2017

I had my very last pre-op appointment until surgery today! So glad that jumping through all the hoops is over! I've been working towards this for almost a year now.

At my appointment today I got my blood drawn, upper gi, ekg, and I met with my anesthesiologist.

We struggled to find a vein that was big enough, so I got stuck quite a few times. This happens evertime. I always feel so bad that my veins are so tiny!

For my upper GI I had to swallow a whole bunch of barium as well as these fizzy rocks and water combo. Both were really hard to swallow. I had to fast for 12 hours before the test, and that barium just did not sit well in my stomach. Yuck.

I'm also on my pre-op liquid diet. I'm honestly proud of how well I've been following. The 3rd day was randomely super hard physically. But other than that it's been okay. The hardest part is when my family eats dinner. I have to go upstairs to avoid the delicious smells. I've been craving pizza. Like seriously CRAVING. Yesterday I spent an hour or so looking up post-op bariatric "pizza" recipes for once I'm onto solid foods. Here's the kicker: I don't even like pizza! The heck?

My surgery is Tuesday. And I'm so excited. But I'm also nervous. I'm getting RNY, but I had really hoped for vsg. However, my reflux is pretty bad so I figure why risk it. RNY just scares me a little more. It's definitely the right choice, but it's a big choice. I'm a big jumble of excitement, pride, fear, worry, hope, nerves, and joy! Figures crossed all goes well. Praying that God will protect, but that ultimately His will be done.
