13 Week Update - Hurricane Relief

Oct 21, 2017

October 21, 2017

Its  been a while since I have posted on here and alot has happened. Mainly going back to work after 8 weeks on disability for RNY recovery. I am a catastrophe adjuster so I was instantly deployed to the Houston area and Fort Myers Fl area for catastrophe response. Needless to say this was a difficult time for all involved and my heart and prayers go out to anyone on this site that was affected in any way.

Working in these areas brought about alot of challenges trying to maintain weight loss progress. I really relied on my tool to carry me through and it never disappointed. I continued to do cardio atleast 4 times a week. Im walking at a brisk pace for 60 minutes and reaching just under 5 miles per walk

So I am now approximately 13 weeks as of 10/21/17 and I am really happy with my progress. As of now I am at a loss of 120lbs total. 90lbs since surgery on 7/17/17. I hit the one hundred mark, and now I am finally out of the 300's for good.

Im looking forward to reaching my goal soon and finally buying some clothes that ill keep for more then a month. What a good feeling this is and I feel amazing. I actually feel my age and I have so much energy. I no longer have anxiety on the airplane and can actually fit comfortably in a seat. My confidence is high, my wife is happy and I am happier then ever. This was the best decision I could of ever made and my only regret is that I didnt do it sooner. Thank you all for reading and supporting me through this process and I will try to keep you updated on my further progress!

8 weeks post op update!!!

Sep 11, 2017

So I am now at 8 weeks as of 9/11/17 and I am really happy with my progress. As of now I am at a loss of 96lbs total. 56lbs since surgery on 7/17/17.

Height - 6'6"

Highest Weight - 415

Weight at Surgery- 375

Current Weight - 319

Goal Weight - 260

I have been mentally staying positive. You have to continue to remind yourself to stick to the plan, it will work. I walk everyday about 60 mins and now I have incorporated sprints on the treadmill after my walks and situps, which are very challenging. I have been making great food choices but i appreciate my pouch on days that I decide to step out and enjoy something off plan. My pouch limits my intake and doesnt allow me to overindulge which is great. Im greatful for all the weight I have lost in such a short time. But im also working my ass off to make it happen. I still have a long journey to meet my goal but Im excited and motivated to get there.

I look forward to hitting the 100lb mark and getting out of the 300s for good. I started back work today after being on disability. This really allowed me to focus and prepare. I recommend going on disabilty for at least 6 weeks if possible. Focus on yourself and take that time to develop good habits. I travel alot with my job and im confident that I will be able to stay on plan with no problems because I have developed a good habitual plan that works for me.

Good Luck to eveyone and stay positive and focused.

Day 3 Update

Jul 20, 2017

Surgery date 7/17/17

Highest Weight 415 Surgery Weight 375

Quick day 3 update. I am still on liquids right now, drinking water, protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free apple sauce and sugar free popsicles. I feel really good physically and mentally. There is some soreness as expected and no issues with swallowing or digesting any food. Ive been very active, walking 2 to 3 times a day for aboit 15-20 minutes at a time. Im sure this has played a part in a successful recovery along with the preop diet and excercise regimen. I can tell the difference in my face and shirt size already.  I have decided to hold off on weighing myself until my first post op doctor visit which is scheduled for Monday 7/24/17.  Hope everyone else is doing well and I look forward to updating everyone on Monday.

Made it Home!

Jul 18, 2017

Day of Surgery 7/17/17

I am finally home after an overnight stay at the hospital. My doctor Stanley Hoehn, and nurse staff at The Bariatric Center of Kansas City were first class all the way. I am in pain but tolerable pain right now. Suprisingly there is no complications and water ais going down easily and so are the sf popsicles. I dont feel any different but I know ive changed on the inside for the better. I look forward to dropping as much weight as I can in the next few months. Starting Weight 415. Weight at Surgery 375. Goal weight 250.

Current weight is 380. Gained 5lbs while in hospital, but from what I read on this site that is typical. I will continue to walk and sip my water and eat popsicles for the next week, then on to pureed foods.

So overnight at the hospital went well. I walked a good 4 times and the nursea called me a rock star amd an ideal patient lol. Not alot of pain, mostly has related cramping. Nausea has been well underwrap and Other then that, all is well. Should be going home soon. Last thing for the nurses to do is take out the pump on the left side of my stomach, which has been a pain in the ass. Catherter waa removed at 4am and ive gone to the bathroom twice on my own so far. I also had a 4th of sugar free popsicle and it still tastes good. Ive also had a couple of sips of water. Nervoius and anxious to go home today. My journey begins!

Day 1 blood test results.

Jul 17, 2017

So the doctor just came in to talk about my blood test. He stated first that my uric acid levels are high and I could be facig a gout flare up soon. I have had this in the past so he advised tomorrow to get on medication to prevent the flare up. Also he said I am pre diabetic, so its a good thing I got the surgery now. Thirdly, he said my testosterone was very low and he may consider putting me on medication for this as it could and will play a factor in weight gain. Lastly, he stated my kidneys are not great but ok and should be ok if i limit alcohol and  quit smoking for a lifetime. Not great news with all of this but im glad i know now and can focus on treatments for these issues. WLS is just a start and I know for sure it will pay off in the end healthwise.

Recovery

Jul 17, 2017

So surgery went great. It was only about a 45 min procedure. Ive been pretty much sleeping the day away. Ive gotten up to walk once so far and that went well. In between sleeping ive eaten on ice chips only. Not sure how much I can take in but ive been doing like 1 or 2 at a time and so far no issues. Im having some gas issues but the more I walk the better it will be. My wife got sleeved about 4 weeks ago and she is here supporting me through it all. We are looking forward to doing this journey together. So day 1 has been good so far.  My wife had a lot of complications so im praying i dont.  Hope everyone is having a great day!
