Constipation is making me waaaaaaaiiiiiiiit

Jul 17, 2017

By the title you can tell I am in dire straits with the can't go problem. You can file this under TMI if necessary but I have read all the old posts and started Miralax yesterday along with Gas-X.  I can poot so if there is a blockage it is only a partial. I survived a partial blockage (no surgical intervention) already and know that if I start barfing it's time to call my surgeon and head to the hospital.  I have not had any coffee since before my preop diet so I'm trying decaf with Miralax and a little heavy cream.  It is awful but I'm choking it down. I don't taste the Miralax but it seems to have given my coffee a texture.  I will have to conceal it in a protein smoothie or some other disguise.  I was not what most people call regular before surgery so I'm not expecting to become that way now but I am coming up on day 11. My diet is very heavy on the liquids, light on substance but I manage to get 70 plus grams of protein daily.  I can't eat puréed, mashed, smashed meat unless we're talking steak tartare (Dr. said NO!).  If something doesn't shake loose soon 24-48 hours I'm going to call for help.

Puréed Food Phase

Jul 14, 2017

I had a good 2 week check-up and officially have moved on to the Puréed food phase. BTW I also lost a whopping 25.3 lbs since my surgery date. I cannot entirely take credit since I spent 5 days post op. on nothing but I.V. fluids due to a blockage. I thought in my state of head hunger that I really wanted scrambled eggs (2 to be exact) when in reality I could only chew one egg and as most people tell you - they don't taste the same. I felt soooooo full, for hours after eating one egg. He cleared me to eat protein bars practicing the 30 rule of course & told me to cautiously add texture to my diet. In a show of solidarity the Hubs ate a Premier Protein bar, calling me from work to report that it's a no for him.

My surgeon cleared me for swimming so I will start walking the pool and hopefully progress to aerobics, then swimming. 'Walking' the pool while reading a good book is my go to stress breaker.

Protein on a Full Liquid Diet

Jul 10, 2017

I plan to blog about what is working for me (in the moment) since I haven't found a lot of bloggers talking about this stage of WLS. A great blog for later in the journey is

theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com

So far I have been able to get 60 grams or more of protein daily. Using the Nutrition Tracker on Spark People has been a lifesaver. Since surgery I have only been out of the hospital for 6 days total.  I am using a combination of Syntrax Nectar powdered protein (whey isolate), Premier Protein ready to drink shakes, Atkins Advantage ready to drink shakes, and Nestle Beneprotein powder.  Of course I also indulge in SF Jello & popsicles.  Practicing the 30 minute rule is hard but worth it - No drinking 30 minutes before or after eating.  When I have felt nauseous has been when I disregarded this rule.  If you are on this journey with me or just starting your own, I pray you have success!
