I ran into MAJOR complications related to my RNY. I ended up in the hospital Feb 20 with incredible stomach pain. After many, many tests turned out I was a VERY sick girl. My bowels had gotten all tangled around the bypassed intestine causing an obstruction. My gallbladder was sick, and distended. My surgeon said it looked "ready to pop". My appendix also had to go. So, into surgery I went. After getting cut "stem to stern" and several hours of surgery, my tummy is better. I am home now, but have to go back to the surgeon tomorrow as a part of my incision has decided to open back up. My current surgeon, (from St. Joseph East and his incredible staff)Dr. Joespeh Fine says this type of bowel obstruction or herniation is common in Lap RNY patients. Especially about a year out which on the 29th of this month will be my anneversary. I was not made aware of this particular complication and want to make sure the rest of you are aware of the possibility. If you are thinking about getting the RNY laparascopically, make sure that is what you really want. You may end up still getting cut from "stem to stern" a year or so later. Goddess bless you all. I will post you on my progress.Rowan A. 21 years, 5 months ago
Okay guys... here is something very important! Make sure you take an iron supplement. Or at least make sure you are getting plenty in your diet. I just spent 2 days in the hospital because of being anemic. I was sooo low, that I had to receive two units of blood. They said my iron levels were almost nonexistant. So please make sure you all get your iron in! If you start feeling completely drained of energy but no cold symptoms, please get your RBCs checked! You, too, may be anemic. I was feeling really run down, and started getting dizzy spells. This is what led to me the ER, but I just "knew" that I was anemic. So, please, make sure you get your iron in and take care of yourselves.kylakae 21 years, 5 months ago
