Hi Luci - I'm sorry about your denial. If it is a specific policy exclusion, you are definitely in for a real battle; most with exclusions really won't pay no matter what. You could ask to speak to the Medical Director of the authorization department to find out if they make exceptions at all (such as comorbidities) and what can you do to get this life-saving procedure (proof of medical necessity?) ? As for timing, I don't want to be a complete downer, but it seems like you may be dealing with your insurance company for a while, and may need to go with a new surgeon by the time you get your insurance to make an exception - if they will at all. Don't give up - you are worth this - you will just have to take the hard way apparently.
