I'm going remarkably well, and I feel so blessed to feel healthy and in control of my eating. I'm down 50 lbs now, and looking forward to more. My weight is coming off slowly in comparison to others, but my family Dr. says what I'm doing is perfect because it's not only healthy, but my skin's elasticity has a little chance to keep up with the weight loss. I hope this means I'll have less "hang" afterwards. Oh...I'll have it for sure (no doubt about that), but maybe to a lesser degree so long as I continue my exercising. What a life changing experience this has been. My only regret is that I didn't take this step a long time ago. My heart goes out to those with complications or discomfort. Someone, I drew the lucky straw, I guess, because I haven't had any problems. Continued success to any who read this entry. If you feel you need some support, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

7/6/03 I am 2 months post-op and down 37 lbs. I often find myself comparing my progress with other people on this website, and it really depresses me. Now, I find myself not really read the big message board, but sticking to the local board (California). I'm thrilled with my weight loss, and feel that I am now kick-starting it with a membership at Curves, where I'll work-out 3xweek. My eating has not been problemmatic at all. I love nice cold water! Though I'm sure I'm not drinking enough, I feel really good. Occasionally, I'll eat too quickly, and like every other post-op -- we get that ever-so-real physical reminder to slow down. I am grateful for a supportive husband, and I am thankful for a skilled doctor, and I am blessed by a loving God! Life is good!

6/20/03 Update! I'm 6+ weeks post-op and doing well. I complained and worried about the level of fatigue I was experiencing that first month, but at about week 4 or 5, I turned a corner, and don't feel that overwhelming tiredness anymore. Sure, I tire in mid-afternoon, but I'm not immobilized like before! I think it must have been my body recuperating from major surgery and anesthesia. That just knocked the wind out of my sails. I returned to work this past week, and felt very good. It felt good to feel some energy, and I was actually happy to be back at work! (What's wrong with this picture?!) My weight loss is steady, though not tremendous. I'm at just a smidge under 30 pounds loss now. I confess, I don't drink all the water I should, I don't eat all the protein I should, and I don't exercise nearly enough. So, I have no right to complain whatsoever. Reducing my salt intake, increasing my water intake, and getting into an exercise program are my top 3 priorities. No problems eating. I can pretty much try anything. It's always an experiment. Bought myself a blender yesterday, so I'm looking forward to some nice fruity, protein smoothies for breakfast now. This will be my main method of getting protein, I imagine. Lovoe and blessings to all who venture onto my profile page and read this. Whether your pre-op or post-op, I bless you and encourage you to keep up the good fight.

6/4/03 I am doing better energy-wise, but I attribute it all to my marvelous husband who walks with me every morning. He knows I've been discouraged about my tiredness, and he's been very supportive. I DO feel like I have a smidgeon more energy, plus I spoke with the nurse from my surgeon's office yesterday, so I'm encouraged a little. My weight loss doesn't seem to be rapid, but it IS happening, and for that I am grateful. Time to buy a bathroom scale soon! I'm so grateful that my boss allowed me a full 6 weeks off to recup. At one month post-op just now, I am feeling ready -- but am grateful for 2 more weeks to build up my stamina even more. (Can't be falling asleep on the job!)

5/28/03, and I feel great but am so TIRED all the time. I posted a question to the message board to ask others for suggestions. I know exercise is one solution, but I honestly feel so tired that I can't even conceive of going out and walking 10 minutes. Sometimes it feels like a wave of sleepyness---almost like I've been drugged. I'm discouraged that I'm not exercising and my weight will not come off as quickly. And I am jealous of other new post-ops who say they're out there walking every day and loving it! God, give me ENERGY!! AND QUICK!!

Yesterday, I was 2 weeks post-op, and doing fantastic! I was so happy when, on day 9, I had my first post-op Dr. appointment, and they removed my drain (I called it my "purse"!). Thank God that's gone! Free at last! I go the OK to attend my church's annual women's retreat in Lake Tahoe (for which I am the worship leader, but we obtained a substitute), and enjoyed myself so much! I took it easy, and had lots of naptime, walked and breathed fresh air, and thoroughly enjoyed it. During the retreat, a women confided in me that she's 12 mos post-op and has lost 130 lbs. She proudly showed me monthly pictures she'd taken (which I encourage us ALL to do now!) I'm still getting accustomed to foods, portions, feelings of fullness, etc., but I know this is a journey where I learn about my body more each day. To anyone reading this, keep up the good work you're doing, don't lose hope, and reach out to others for support when you need it. God bless!
