Well, now I am 5 weeks a long and another 3 lbs. down to put me at 214. I am hoping to loose a little bit more next week. I am trying to be more strict and getting in my daily exercise. I am up to walking a mile on my lunch hour. It only takes me 20 minutes, sometimes I worry that I am not walking for a long enough period of time. But I figure that if I am walking, it is better than not walking at all. Plus I don't want to exhaust myself to the point of not being able to talk normally. Does anyone have any suggestions on this whole walking thing, like am I walking enough, too little, or whatever else you may think is helpful? ***********GREAT NEWS FOR NORTHERN AL********** We have our own support group which has been named "The Wings of WLS"! Our first meeting was last Thursday and was very exciting! If you would like more information on the group, please email Michelle Hagan, Terri Hansen, or myself. Eventually, we will have our meeting times and place posted here for all. Hope this finds all doing well! Love, Tammy

2/8/02 Well, I am 3 weeks post-op and doing great! I have lost 21 lbs. to put me at 220. Yipppeeee! I will not see Dr. Miles again until I am 3 months post-op. Since surgery I have not taken a single diabetic pill. My glucose levels have just kept going down. I have started adding meat (not red) back into my diet. Boy, was I missing it! I may only be able to get a few bites down, but I savor every bit of them. Subzone makes a great chicken salad. I was very surprised. I am also finding out that certain foods I really seemed to like before, aren't as tantalizing anymore. Well, beside that there isn't much more to say. I do want to thank my wonderful husband for how supportive and caring he has been through this whole thing. There is also one other person I would like to thank; her name is Terri Hansen. Before surgery, I had two people that had volunteered to be my angels, but not much came of it. I was in the hospital the night of the local support group met, and I thought someone would come up and visit, but I was wrong. Anyway, I became familiar with Terri only about a week before my surgery. She called me asking me questions on the process. We talked for quite awhile. She called me a few times more before my surgery date too. When I was in the hospital, she would call up ask me how I was doing and feeling. She always kept it respectfully short, which I admired. I really didn't feel like talking on the phone too much while I was there. When I got home, she called and checked on me too. I finally got to where I was feeling a little more talkative and guess who was one of the very first people I called. I have never met Terri face to face, but someday we will. Even if she wasn't my so-called official angel, she WAS!!! I hope I can repay her kindness and caring by being there for her when her day comes. Thanks for listening! Tammy

Good Luck Tamara. You will be so happy in about 2-3 weeks. the first few days will pass and then theings get on the road to wonderful. Walking is the best treatment for so many things...pain, emotions, and even head hunger. I have found that whenever I get problems in any way relating to the surgery(I had mine 8 mos ago) I can find relief and comfort by exercising. Sound odd, but it realy works. My only complications have been the need to reduce my blood pressure meds until now I don't take any at all. It's wonderful. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi~~ Just wanted to wish you ALL the best with your upcoming surgery. I'm 5 days post op and know the first couple of days are gonna be rough on you....in fact up until Saturday morning in the hospital, I couldn't believe I'd put myself thru such hell (nose tube, IV, etc). The soreness hasn't been a big issue for me yet---liquid or crushed ibuprofen seems to be working ok. My advice for anyone after surgery: as soon as the doc/nurses give you leave to walk, do as much of it as possible. It'll get you home quicker. Lord bless and keep you as safe & comforable as possible.
