6 Months Post Op: I am down 112 pounds, to 208. It really was gratifying passing the century mark! Haven't had any problems except that I seem to be more susceptible to catching colds. I've read on this site that others have experienced similar maladies - and that your body "catches up" after a year or so. Tried some of the "old favorites during the holidays - can't do them, makes me really ill, dumping big time. This is good although while I was eating the bad stuff, it didn't seem to taste as good as before. One vice I now have is having, occasionally, a small serving of Ruffles WOW Potato Chips - no fat. They do cause some diarrhea if I eat too many, so I watch it. If anybody is reading my profile who hasn't had WLS, I say; research it well, make up your mind, and, if you're convinced, go for it! I can honestly say this is the best thing I've ever done for myself short of getting married.

4 months Post-Op, After Thanksgiving. Am down to 228, 92 pounds lost. I know my life has changed because I didn't eat (nor want) any corn bread dressing. Used to eat at least a couple pounds of the stuff. The high fat foods, desserts and the old favorites just aren't appetizing. Did have some nuts and waldorf salad - just a little and they were good. Have lot of energy now - walked three miles this morning then raked my yard for 4 hours. Still have energy to spare. am truly thankful for all the support I've gotten from those of you on this site. God bless you all this holiday season!

10/31/02: Three months out and am down 82 pounds. The weight loss is slowing, but I'm not discouraged. Had my three month check-up; my iron is low and need a supplement. Otherwise, everything is fine. It seems like I'm eating larger portions now. I'm concerned but remained committed and disciplined to my goals. Need to remind myself daily that WLS is a tool and not a magic bullet. On the positive side, I can eat almost anything without any complications. I bought myself five new sweaters the other day - I haven't worn sweaters in years because I was too fat and would sweat constantly. What a difference losing weight makes!

2 Months Post-Op: Everything is going well. Am down to 248 pounds; that's a total loss of 72 pounds. Waist size down from 50 to 42, and these are feeling loose. I have also found the dumping syndrome - for the first time. My wife and I dined out and we had some prime rib. Boy was I sick! Back to the low fat diet, mostly beans and occasionally chicken. Also eating tuna frequently. my exercising is down to once a day, because of my work schedule. I'm up to three miles walking in less than an hour. Try to do every day, but I usually end up missing a day during the week. This all is going so much better than I expected. Food no longer rules my life as it used to. I am so glad I had WLS. Everybody tells me I look ten years younger, but the best thing is I am healthier. I'm at halfway to my goal, and I know my life has changed forever now!

8/22/02: 1 Month Post Op: Can't believe the process - it's going great!. Down to 268 from 320 pre-op; 52 pounds! It's good to be on soft foods, there's a lot more variety. Have been hungry at times, but it's not the overwhelming feeling I used to have. Going in for 6 week check up next week. Had some labs done beforehand. Total cholesterol 128, blood pressure 110/70, glucose 90 - unbelievable changes for me to be sure. Will post again in September!

8/3/02: 2 Weeks Post-Op: Well, it's almost two weeks. Had my 2 week post-op consultation with Dr. Schram yesterday. Am down to 289 pounds (from 320 pre-op); 31 pounds in 11 days, WOW! I feel really good. Dr. Schram says I'm healing well and can go back to work right after Labor Day. The nutritionist says I'm doing well with getting the 89g of protein I need each day and that so far I'm a "model patient". I've started using CARBOLITE Chocolate supreme shake mix. You get 24g protein per serving and only 3g fat and NO sugars. It tastes good too! I'm up to about 3 miles a day walking and hope too keep it up. That's all for now. Will report back in a week.
