Hi, Gloria-I think you are doing great! I know Dr. Chapman doesn't want us doing protein drinks since they say they bulk you up. I just try to avoid as many carbs as I can. I think the plateaus are really normal, although I know they are frustrating. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will get there. Nicole in Dr. Chapman's office keeps telling me we all lose at different paces and start out in different places, but we all end up in the same place if we follow directions.

Hi Gloria: It is your same day surgery buddy here! We are both at the same point - loss wise. I am down 37 lbs., gone FOREVER! It is slow going at times and I too have hit a plateau or two along the way. Protein is also difficult for me but, I do supplement at least every other day with a protein shake. The water is getting easier to drink and I am exercising daily. Hang in there! We know this isn't the easy way out - but, it will be well worth it! Take Care!

Well I am alittle over 7weeks post op now and have lost 36 lbs. (makes me 231 lbs now). When I look at myself I dont see anything different but people tell me that they can tell I have lost. I have been on a plateau now for over 2 weeks so I am alittle down and out right now. I guess after losing the weight so fast the first few weeks I was expecting to lose more by now. Thanks to everyone that has emailed me and kept me in their prayers. I am also having a hard time getting all my protein in since MD doesnt want me to use any supplements. Any suggestions are welcome. Gotta run for now. Love to all the AMOS friends. Gloria

Gloria, have you discussed with your doctor why he says no to supplements? I don't understand what rationale he could have, most of us here have been advised by our doctors to supplement our protein intake with shakes or bars because it is almost physically impossible to get in the amount you need with the little food you can eat in a day. I know for me, when I increase the protein by drinking a shake, I LOSE MORE! Talk with your doctor and tell him that you want to know what he feels would be wrong or bad about supplementing. It seems strange to me.

Gloria, if you read my web page journal, I too was on a 3 week plateau, starging at my 3rd week. I lost for 3 weeks, then nothing. Very frustrating, I know. Was there not too long ago. Finally after my 6th week, almost 7th week, I started to lose again. Just hang in there. It will drop. Your body can not continue to maintain at the level of food you eat, so just be sure to be patient. Thats what they all told me, and I finally put my scale in the garage, and now only weigh at the support groups, or at Drs office. I sneak a peak at the scale in the garage once in awhile, but its a game we play. The inches still come off, even while your not losing. You will get there, trust me!! Im only in week 9, so I know how you feel.

Hi Gloria, So sorry for the pain you are in. I am 3 weeks post-op open rny and I am very fortunate, I feel wonderful. Here are a few of my favorite protein recipes for full liquids. High Protein Hot Chocolate: 8 oz skim milk, 2 Tbsp sugar free hot cocoa, 2 Tbsp dry milk, taste good and is 16 grams of protein. High protein pudding: 1 small box of sugar free instant pudding, 2 c skim milk, 1/4 c dry milk, blend as directed, 9.5 grams per 1/2 cup, or 19 grams a cup. High protein Carnation Instant Breakfast: 1 pkg of sugar free carnation, 8 oz skim milk, 6 Tbsp dry milk= 20 grams of protein. High protein yogurt: add 3 Tbsp dry milk to your container of Dannon light & fit yogurt=12.5 grams protein. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you.....feel better soon!

Dear Gloria........I'm so sorry about all the terrible pain you are feeling! Like childbirth, you will hopefully forget the pain. I was thinking that there will be a whole new person coming out of this surgery. A very healthy, energetic, and happy Lady - YOU! Take care and God bless :)
