hey Beryl- hang in there! I hit my first plateau at 7 weeks and it lasted 3 WEEKS! nGRRRRR! It does pass; you are not alone; and this will work for you. Protiens should be 70+ gms- I had to double my protein supplement (breakfast and dinner) at that point to keep the protein up. I used www.fitday.com to track it. Good luck!

BERYL~~ The same thing happened to me.... I was on about a 4 week plateau about 4 weeks out from my surgery. It was very discouraging, but eventually the scale moved. I'm sure that the same will happen for you. HANG IN THERE.

I am now almost 7 weeks post op, and haven't lost a single pound in three weeks. I am very discouraged. In fact, I seem to go up and down 5 pounds. I know from reading the posts and so on that people hit plateau's, but this is getting ridiculous to be having these issues this soon after surgery. I am exercising, getting my protein, and watching what I eat. I cannot eat much, so this alone you would think would help with the weight loss. I didn't let it bother me for the first two weeks of the plateau, but now it is really getting to me. I'm sure my surgeon will be surprised when I go back for my check-up, and the weight is the same or more. I drink plenty of water, and have hot tea right before bed. I hope I didn't put my body through all of this, only to have it fail. Needless to say, I am very depressed over this.

I am now almost 4 weeks out, and have lost 30 lbs. My surger was 9/19. I have not had one single problem, and for that, I am grateful! I have been walking 2 miles a day. This morning, I walked 2 miles, got my son ready for school and to the bus stop, had a Doctor appointment, returned home, mowed the grass (1/2 acre!) and was done by 10:00 am! I seem to have more energy than I know what to do with! I sometimes wonder if I really even had surgery...except for the fact that I really cannot eat too much. I do feel that I am not out of the woods for complications as they can develop later so I am keeping my fingers crossed and taking good care of myself. Good luck to all having surgery, and to those of you who are still waiting, your time will come.

Beryl, Im glad youre home and doing better. Pain control doesnt always have to involve meds, sometimes focus items/thoughts work better. Im happy you found your thing and went with it. Much luck to you.

09/23/02 - I am home from the hospital and recovering at home. I is so wonderful to know that I have so many friends that helped take care of me. My animals are all being cared for, as is my Son. My friends check on me constantly to make sure I am OK. I was really scared and wondered what I was doing all they way into the OR before I was "out". When I woke up, I really thought I was crazy due to the pain. I felt like I was a well informed patient, but I was still scared anyway. The worst part was the pain meds as all they did was make me crazy! I am not on any pain Meds, and have not taken any since 2 days after surgery. Once my head cleared, I could deal with this in a more appropriate manner. My poor parents were only told at the last minute I was having gall bladder surgery. It was really hard for them as 3 out of their 5 children were in the hospital this week - me, one brother who has been in over a month after being hit as a pedestrian by a drunk driver, and another brother suffering from severe depression. All my mom could say was this seemed like a lot of pain for a gall bladder! Good luck to anyone seeking this surgery. Please be informed, and be prepared! Also, thank you to everyone who has sent me well wishes. They really helped.

BERYL~~I, too, am having a "slow recovery". I had to have 2 surgeries and for the longest time, I felt like I had made a BIG mistake... things are getting better now. I am 3 months post-op and I am down 57 pounds. My incision is almost healed and I am finally getting some energy. I went through a couple months of nausea and for the past 3 weeks, I've been on a plateau. I agree with you when you posted that this surgery is not something anyone should do lightly. It is a life altering event. I hope that you start feeling better soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sorry you're feeling so crappy. I had a terrible C-section (about 2 days of labor) when I had my son 13 years ago, and I felt like sh&*! People who said "having the baby was worth the pain" made me sick. Of course it was worth it, but I'm no hero and I felt BAD. Good for you for admitting you feel bad and not trying to be a hero! HOWEVER....it's early. Give yourself a few more days. Take lots of pain meds. And that 10 pounds is just fluid. You'll probably lose TWENTY in the next week! Hang in there!
